Ein in China festgestelltes millionenjähriger menschlicher Schädel schlägt vor, dass unsere Spezies, Homo Sapiens, mindestens eine halbe Million Jahre früher als wir dachten, dass Forscher in einer neuen Studie behaupten.

Probably just some random time Traveller who went back and somehow died there

    2. So these dudes finds a really old skull of a predecessor homo species. Him saying „oh there must also be really old homo sapien fossils, we just haven’t found them yet“ doesn’t make for great science. The article itself quotes other scientists disagreeing with the title of this post… which is interesting enough to stand on its own merits, given the lack of east Asian fossils/digs in the records.

That wasn’t the main point of the study. That’s merely one possible conclusion that even one of the co-authors urges caution to interpret (they haven’t really incorporated any African fossils nor do they think their matrix is detailed enough).

The big thing here is that they were able to reconstruct some really badly broken crania from hominins that are likely to date to ~1 million years ago from China. Whether these are true Denisovans, *Homo erectus*, *Homo heidelbergensis*, or if the dating is even correct is still up for debate. Notably, the dating was done on the sediments found in context for only one of the crania (as the other two were already out of context). It also uses Uranium dating (and it’s in French so I’m shit out of luck reading it). So there are problems with the dating conclusions compared to sites in Africa were you have really good volcanic stratigraphy.

„We’re older than you! Smoke on your pipe and put that in, Westoids!“

So, does that mean the cavemen invented spaghetti? Asking for a friend.

So, were not 10k years old like that old book tells millions of people. Science really is a cool thing.
