Dont worry, peasants, they are consuming millions of dollars a day in electricity for the greater good. Surely UBI is just around the corner if only you let them continue unregulated, forever. They surely won’t replace you to increase profits and never compensate anyone.

No it won’t.
None of this will happen.
Y’all need to stop with the AI psychosis. Go outside.

Serious question: why can’t this all be done overseas where it would be cheaper to maintain the server farms (maybe the energy is cheaper, or regulations are easier)?

so… professional salesman manages to have the richest in the world build a massive data center for him, and when the bubble bursts he’s going to „own“ the new Akamai/AWS

AI will be used primarily for price gouging. The world is a dyatopian hellscape.

You would think some AI empire would have the best website ever, that’s constantly self error correcting. Yet, they still can’t get logging in correct, remembering the most recent password after it was changed. Then make their API purchasing system actually difficult for me to give them money. I remember when someone was revolutionary, it actually ended up having a good user interface too. When are the results of the AI knowledge going to actually result in something literally remarkable in every facet?

Don’t worry! We have paper straws now and my air conditioner has an eco mode. We got this! /s

If they are using renewable energy, who cares. Also, if they need to cool this equipment. Why cant they should send it all into orbit.

The scale of energy consumption here is staggering, and what’s frustrating is how little it factors into the mainstream conversation about AI. We celebrate new models and features, but rarely acknowledge that the power fueling them rivals entire cities. And it’s not the companies paying the real price. It’s us through rising costs and the planet through environmental impact. It feels like a massive externalization of responsibility.

this will drive up the cost of kWh for normal people, basic supply / demand

Wasting resources as LLM’S get worse because they’re now feeding on the previous versions slop. The bubble can’t burst fast enough.

Oh no, a company buys electricity and uses it! To sell a product, no less!

Sure it looks like this is how it will play out if everything stays the same – but won’t there just be innovation to become more energy efficient?

Don’t worry: he knows his LLMs are not profitable and majority of those data centers will shut down when the investor capital stops coming in. By then he would have deployed his golden parachute, so he don’t care.

Serious question: is this economically viable? Are they making enough money to pay for the running costs?

Needs to be regulations on energy consumption. You can’t just tank our resources because your shitty AI app is super energy inefficient. No one is going to want AI tools if it means their electricity bills are going to be half the size of their mortgage payments.

This isn’t something I had anticipated as a negative impact of AI – the over consumption of energy – we don’t have enough energy as it is currently. Energy costs are already increasing as direct consequence of the recently developed data centers running AI – and now they’re talking about building out so much more.
This doesn’t bode well……

This is the reason our electric bills have been increasing all over the country. They’re setting everyone up to pay for AI ahead of time.

So we need more power and the cheapest means of generating more electricity is renewable. If we want modernity, we need to generate more power. Simple as that.

And they want the taxpayers to pay for it with some sort of „build nuke plants“ scheme/scam.

Hmmm.. now how could we have AI and also power it without it being a huge source of pollution???
Something about lime or green or something.. I can’t remember what it is. I’m too autistic from taking Tylenol.
