      I empathize with the sentiment, but most expats who *plan* to be in Luxembourg for a few years at most – regardless of whether they *actually* stay longer – will view Luxembourgish as a waste of time. That’s going to discourage some qualified people from coming to Luxembourg and push some families to school their children in Belgium or France, which will have a negative effect on long-term integration.

      I feel that making Luxembourgish an elective or after school program and giving incentives (Higher weighted GPAs? Subsidies for after school childcare? Faster residency / citizenship?) would have the intended effect of teaching kids Luxembourgish without pushing high value expats away.
