The world cannot wish Palestine into existence
Oh sure, vague declarations fix everything.
What’s next? Declaring „world hunger is over“? „We declare the end of the climate crisis“?
So much propaganda around this issue. It’s astounding how many accept statements on social media without doing any research. Why not listen to what Gazans themselves are this issue?
There is an organization called PCPSR which regularly conduct public opinion polls across the West Bank and Gaza Strip on political, social, and policy-related issues.
Highlights from their recent polling –
„Half of the Palestinians in the current poll view Hamas’ decision to carry out the October 7 attack as correct“
„Most of the public continue to believe the attack and the following war have placed the Palestinian issue at the center of global attention“
„A plurality of the public believes that Hamas will continue to control the Gaza Strip after the war.“
„Almost 90% of the public believes Hamas men did not commit the atrocities depicted in videos taken on that day.“
Release of Israeli hostages-
„The overwhelming majority of Palestinians believes that the war will not end and Israel will not withdraw from the Gaza Strip if Hamas agrees to disarm. Similarly, the overwhelming majority disagree with the view that if Hamas releases the hostages, Israel will end the war and withdraw from the Gaza Strip. Perhaps this is why the overwhelming majority *is opposed to a Hamas disarmament* or the departure of its military leadership from the Gaza Strip.“

They very regularly vote on Palestinian statehood and most countries vote yes, it’s just getting a lot more press this time. I’m certain the US will vote no as usual.
I want Palestinian statehood too, perpetual military occupation is not a solution. Voting to recognize them doesn’t accomplish that. The underlying causes of why there isn’t one already need to be addressed. Israel still deals with 300+ terror attacks a year out of the West Bank. Gaza is a disaster area. Polls show Hamas winning elections and contrary to what Hamas supporters who don’t live there think, Hamas will guaranteed plunge them immediately back into war if given the chance. And then when you get into the minutiae like what happens for water, how will people eat and get money without the aid they get partially because they aren’t a country yet, things seem even farther away.
I don’t have a solution because there is no easy solution. People bring up denazification for the Germans a lot, but it’s much harder to address islamism. There is endless criticism for what Israel does, but no acknowledgment of the fact there is no action they can take or not take that would help either since the “problem” is fundamentally that they exist at all.
I said it before, this is like recognizing Tibet. It won’t change anything for Tibetans on the ground. China and Israel have nukes, you can’t force them through military means to suck it up and accept the existence of one another like we did with Serbia and Kosovo. Statehood is only happening if Palestinians and Israelis are willing to come to the table to hash it out.
That does not seem to be the case with Hamas and Likud.
Israel never wished Palatine away, they wished it Not Attacking Them. And it keeps refusing to do that
A functional Palestinian state can only come into existence if Palestinians themselves learn that accept that Jews are humans too, accept the bitterness of losing the 1948 war and accept that Jews having nothing left to lose if their only state in this world is destroyed and they are ready to bring down the world with them if their existence is threatened once again.
