What is this boondoggle going to cost the US? Maybe it’s $1 into you know whos bank account for every $100 sent as a „loan“ to his favorite president of the week
Bessent’s backstop for Argentina with Treasury’s occasionally used $219.5 billion Exchange Stabilization Fund sent the peso and other Argentine assets [soaring](https://www.reuters.com/world/americas/argentina-markets-soar-after-us-bessent-pledges-support-2025-09-22/) after major losses last week. But he said decisions on any U.S. intervention would come after he and President Donald Trump meet with Argentine President Javier Milei in New York on Tuesday.

It’s not socialism if we give our money to someone else, or something.

For the first 18 month of his presidency Milei cut inflation from 350% to 35%, ended budget deficit first time from 2012, pulled out around 20% of population above poverty line. And this is after he got country that has been in recession for more than 50 years and was ravaged by leftists for decades. Previous presidents were overthrown and put into prison or run from Argentina (with hundreds of millions stolen dollars).
I understand, that when you are too far left, everything looks far right. But before throwing around words like „fascists“, I suggest you actually read world history and how well far left ideologies fared so far (spoiler: fascists are very moderate by comparison).
Any „far“ is bad. And seems like snowflakes forgot how both of them really look like.

It’s important to understand WHY Trump is doing this. There were elections in the province of Buenos Aires a couple weeks back. Buenos Aires represents 40% of the nations electorate, and his party was beaten by its main opposition by a 13 point margin AFTER Milei publicly made the vote itself a referendum on his government by hyping up it’s importance. The numbers show that he’s essentially lost all the electoral gains that brought him into power, and he lost all of that ground largely because the economy has grown stagnant and has started to actually shrink again, while the Argentinian Peso has continued to lose value. People expected a lot more in exchange for the mass government layoffs and reduction in social services/benefits.
Now he’s in a hole electorally and the countries midterm elections are next month, setting up Milei to lose control of the legislature. Trump doesn’t want that to happen because he’s already publicly embraced Milei, and it would be personally embarrassing to him if Milei lost the midterms, so he’s gonna do everything he can to prop up their economy until their elections are over.

Ironic when you think about his stance on foreign aid with every other country, but reverses course on Argentina who has close ties as a sanctuary for facist leaders in 1945.
