      I don’t understand why people are supporting such a flawed plan as this ban was.

      This is a baffling quote. The money will be injected back into the gun industry regardless of whether the SKS is banned. They *know* this. The entire government message, for years, has been „this buyback is to compensate gun owners so they can replace their prohibited weapons with legal ones“.

      For the lobby group who [single-handedly put this policy on the Liberal agenda](https://nationalpost.com/news/ecole-polytechnique-group-sent-trudeau-into-damage-control) to be saying this now, at the 11th hour, is inexplicable. There is simply no possible way that they’ve been under the false impression, for five and a half years, that gun owners weren’t going to use the money to buy more guns. I don’t know what the motive for this statement could possibly be.

      Not even the minister responsible for the buyback personally supports it. For a government that pretends to be transparent this is some very cynical politics.

      I just want to know what I’m supposed to do with my gun. I don’t want to run afoul of the law and deadline, but every time I’ve called the CFO they’ve said „hold tight until the buyback program is announced“.

      Even after all the bans, has guncrime gone down? Nope.
      These bans are not effective and doing nothing but dividing canadians further.
      PAL holders being scrutinized and scapegoated as the reason gun crime in cities is still rising is illogical and statistically incorrect.
      Whats the definition of insanity again?

      Ridiculous article, Ottawa being “urged” by polysesouvient to ban more guns is the equivalent of Greta Thunberg advocating for less fossil fuels. It’s literally all they do. Trying to claim that adding one more hunting rifle would somehow make the gun buyback not a waste of money shows just how delusional they are. The only thing banning the SKS would do is hurt hunters and specifically many First Nations who depend heavily on the economical and efficient firearm to feed their communities.

      If the government goes through with the forceful confiscation of firearms, expect a dozen more Oka-crisis type uprisings. The SKS is probably the most prolific firearm in Canada, and it’s extremely popular with the Indigenous as well.

      Remember when the NDP could not support amendment g46 because it trampled on Indigenous interests? I expect the same infighting to begin here.

      Poly is an extremist activist group whose sole objective is the total prohibition of firearms, under the guise of public safety.

      Anyone out there with a schismogenesis read on this? As in, we are actively trying to separate ourselves from the lunatics in the States, and this is merely a convenient way of doing that?

      Gun control laws in Canada serve to distinguish our northern group from that crazy southern group. That’s the end, that’s the whole point. If you are inconvenienced because it circumscribes a hobby of yours, the end goal is not related to that.

      Anyone who tells you that this government isn’t banning hunting rifles is absolutely gas lighting you.

      I use my SKS for deer hunting, it has legitimate uses such as being one of the last centre-fire semiautomatic rifles for shooting competitions and hunting. Why can’t these people just leave us alone. It’s one probably the second most popular rifle in the country behind the Lee Enfield. Banning it will do nothing but anger Indigenous and other PAL holders.
