By announcing that autism is caused by a specific thing, and can easily be fixed by stopping that thing, … RFK Jr and Trump have freed up billions of dollars. Billions of dollars that used to be spend on autism research, can now be given to billionaires as tax cuts.
There are currently four Republicans in the Senate that are physicians – Marshall, Cassidy, Paul (barely), and Barasso.

What’s insane to me is that they think autism is something that needs to be fixed.

A slow process but interesting to see some republicans finally drawing a line in the sand to the nonsense coming from the White House.
The saddest part of this post is the casual use of a political affiliation as an adjective in front of a certified professional title. „Republican physician“ is essential use in these Trump/RFK times, but it makes about as much sense as saying „catholic electrician“ or „vegetarian judge“. Politics isn’t medicine, and vice versa.
The „shock“ in the title is that a Trump-aligned physician would follow his physician training and not his political affiliation on medical matters. Before Trump/RFK/MAHA that would have been a, „well duh.“ The fact that it might not be these days is very disturbing.

Two things – Tump is and has been going after perceived enemies this term. I’d be super curious what Trump and / or his father’s involvement was in the 1982 Tylenol scandal/murders and / or if there have been any recent perceived slights. He’s especially rabid about „TYLENOL“ specifically.

I’m glad he’s making a public statement questioning the announcement, but Republicans like Sen. Cassidy are trying to have it both ways. They’re complicit in these results, while publicly trying to come off as a voice of reason.

Fuck these Republicans. They literally sat through an hours long hearing where Democrats pointed out all the crazy antivaxx and autism claims RFK made over the years. They still voted yes. And now they want to come out against all the antivaxx and autism shit he says like it’s a surprise.
So now we’re looking at 4+ years of conservative morons going through unnecessarily painful pregnancies, tapping all sorts of „alternative“ pain relief supplements, and not seeing any difference in the autism rate of children.
Not to mention the decades of damage this does to trust in science and medicine in the US.
