      The short term impact is awful for the world, but the long term impact is that the country is shutting itself off and basically becoming North Korea. So hopefully the world will treat USA as it does NK, and cut all ties. The world will be a better place without the states… It’s the only positive I can think of at the minute because every single thing about the current situation is awful.

      I’m glad to see a title that reflects the seriousness of the sitution instead of trying to downplay it.

      The Supreme Court already gave Trump significant control over the judiciary. Now they’re handing him authority specifically designated for Congress as well.

      Let’s be honest, this stuff has not been tested. Its been assumed to be illegal, but now it is not. 

      This shows the importance of codifying laws properly. For decades we have been content with politicians working around getting proper laws implemented.

       You saw this with Rowe v Wade. Many states bet on the fact that it would be overturned at some point. We could have had a proper law implemented that would have prevented this, but no one ever bothered. Not during Clinton, Obama, or Biden, despite all three having the numbers to get such things passed in their first two years. 

      **If** democrats or progressives ever get back in power, we *need* to demand more of our representatives. 

      I fully predict that gay marriage will be gone before the end of this presidential term. That’s another ruling that’s not properly codified in law.

      This is possibly one of the most disappointing things lately. It’s hard to say with civil rights, women’s rights, constitutional rights, you know all the crap. So here we go again, this check and balance has failed and the United States edges closer and closer to another moment in history. If this was March 23rd 1933 I wouldn’t be surprised.

      Precedent only matters when it’s advantageous to a political party apparently. The only reason Republicans are handing so much power to Trump is because they’re sure Democrats will never be able to wield it.

      I’m starting to wonder if they’re all on the Epstein list and that’s the dirt that is being held over everyone’s head because they all seem so quick to throw away this country. The only reason I can think of that would have so many American politicians and selfed proclaimed patriots being so willing to throw away our democracy is if they are all in on it together

      In order to increase the political reliability of the courts in 1933 special courts were established throughout Germany to try politically sensitive cases. Dissatisfied with the ’not guilty‘ verdicts rendered by the Supreme Court (Reichsgericht), the People’s Court (Volksgerichtshof) was created in 1934 to try “treason” and „political cases” bypassing their SC and losing the last semblance of legitimate legal proceedings.

      By all means let’s just sit here watching this happening.

      What’s it going to take before people realize that this isn’t going to stop without force? The longer we wait the harder it will be.

      Even a small percentage of the country actively resisting and disrupting would have major effects. Plus since America is a corporate hellscape above all else, simply putting a big enough hole in their bottom lines would do wonders.

      So….at what point does he gain the power to fire them all and just issue judgements of his own? If they don’t give him what he wants in October what’s stopping him from using some sentence in the Constitution to get rid of the Supreme Court? Does Amy Conen Barrett have a coy and vague answer for that as well?
