This is devastating, absolutely devastating – successive governments have a lot to answer for the systemic failure to safeguard children from grooming gangs across many regions in the UK.
The delay to launch a national inquiry showed a conflict of interest in their priorities, all too willing to bury their heads in the sand.
This was an outcome that should have never been allowed to happen.
The hardest lesson of my adult life is that some people can be broken by experiences in ways they will never recover from.
Some of the stuff I’ve read about this case and similar are frightening.
There’s been a multitude of deaths linked to the abuse, many not publicly reported.
Child sexual abuse is one of the leading causes of suicides.
Naturally the police managed to fail her one more time before the end. Needs to be a serious effort to clear house in these areas that had grooming gangs.
Ounce of prevention 15+ years ago would have been better than a gallon of cure (assuming much attempt to give cure to her life even happened).
At least she got some of her story out there. Better than it being some total mystery and then people would say „oh we don’t know what happened“, so the truth isn’t spoken (bad if you value truth) and the future is never improved.
