I have enough faith in Kimmel as a person to believe he didn’t fold and won’t make some ridiculous apology…..But this happened awfully fast. Were the people dropping streaming services enough to scare them?
I canceled our next Disney trip ($1400) and I canceled Disney+ when they went along with destroying our right to freedom of speech as Americans.
They will not be getting any more money from us in the future regardless of what they tried to backpedal on or do.
No, there is something they could do that would make me go back to Disney properties, create a 24 hour channel dedicated to pointing out the lies and crimes the Trump administration has been doing. It would be at least a month before they actually had to repeat what they started with and even then, it would be new lies and crimes sprinkled in every day that the Trump administration continues committing crimes and telling lies.
I’d wait to see whether he’s had his wings clipped in the back room talks that bought the show back. Maybe Disney caved, maybe he’s been forced to accept boundaries. No way of knowing just yet.
Before you all run to resubscribe, don’t forget that Disney was and I’m sure still is willing to throw our rights into the trash can for profit.

Hopefully no one involved donated to Turning Point, which as I recall was one of the „demands“ put forth by the Trump administration for Kimmel to return to the show. I also hope that Kimmel is not restrained in his criticism of Trump or his cronies.

If only they chose to engage in conversation first instead of reactively canning the show right away. They could’ve said something like“ In the spirit of Charlie, we are choosing to engage in dialogue before making a final decision on the future of this program“.
Instead, now they’re backpedaling trying to save face because they bent the knee without any thought.
They’re just doing this to cut their financial losses. They’ve lost billions of dollars because of their censorship. They don’t care about free speech. They just care about making money.

This obliterated the conservative talking point that it was all a business choice and that Kimmel was losing them money. Why bring back a loser?
I hate that my first thought was “thank goodness money is still more important than fascism.”
MAGA doesn’t seem to understand that the pushback against Kimmel’s firing is almost entirely driven by the fact that Trump’s errand boy Carr appears to have demanded it with thinly-veiled threats. Instead, they’re complaining that Disney caved, or embracing self-pity by saying they have to play by the rules while the “violent radical leftists” like Kimmel don’t have to follow them. I’m not sure if they truly don’t understand, or they simply think that the Trump admin should be able to do whatever it wants and take it personally when it can’t.
If Sinclair and Nextstar had pushed ABC to terminate him because of citizen backlash, and they terminated him, fine. That’s free speech. If MAGA wants to protest, boycott, write letters, whatever…more power to them. But, as even Ted Cruz pointed out, if the government starts silencing speech for political reasons, we’re on a dangerous path. And that danger still exists. Carr didn’t get away with it (yet) because of the pushback, but what about all of the less high-profile firings that they’re encouraging?
I find it really hard to believe, that ABC agreed to it without any hidden conditions. The wording on this statement doesn’t feel right.

The Mass cancellation of subscriptions is probably what got the ball rolling for Jimmy. While I’m certain it wasn’t a massive percentage, it must’ve been enough to scared the execs about the possibility of it becoming a trend. Subscription numbers are pretty key to share prices in this streaming era. The cowards basically let the public stand up to the FCC and Trump for them, absolutely spineless. Watch Jimmy to support him but don’t give them your money until they show they have some spines.
I. Interested to know how Kimmel’s comment was ill-timed and insensitive when magazis had spent the week blaming liberals and trans people. When listening to the people who were at Kirk’s memorial yesterday, there was a lot of mention of “they did it”, “they are against us”. That’s is inflammatory.
“Last Wednesday, we made the decision to suspend production on the show to avoid further inflaming a tense situation at an emotional moment for our country,” Disney, which owns ABC, said in a statement Monday. “It is a decision we made because we felt some of the comments were ill-timed and thus insensitive.”
