‚During the spring sitting, the two major parties showed how they could essentially sideline the others to pass a bill quickly.
‚For example, the Liberals‘ major projects legislation — backed by the Conservatives — moved through the House in less than a month.‘
It looks like the Liberals won the last election by adopting the Conservative agenda. Unless class replaces identity politics in the public mind the status quo is likely to continue unscathed.
Vote based on what’s best for your constituents. Don’t pull a Duhmerica and Vote against the interests of your constituents for a partisan power struggle.
The major issue won’t be in the House, the government can always name it a confidence vote to ensure it’ll be adopted. No one wants an election, and holding them over the barrel on one is the strongest move to ensure support.
However, committee will be a real problem in terms of amendments if they can’t strike reasonable deals. The government could see their legislation change in a direction they really don’t want if the BQ or CPC play hard ball. It’d be difficult to convince folks to reverse those changes at the report stage.
