It was reported a while back he was enforcing subscription and pulling civilians from here, there and everywhere to replenish stock, for their Ukraine offensive.
What’s the goal here from Russia’s perspective? If they test NATO and don’t get an aggressive response, then what? And if they *do* get an aggressive response, how is that possibly going to help Putin at all? Even if it unifies all of Russia behind him and his war, it’s going to decimate them. Their economy and military is barely hanging on just with the war in Ukraine. There is no possible upside to a war with NATO, whether it’s limited or all out war. The last thing Russia needs now is a second front or more enemies.

I highly doubt this has any truth to it. Russia does not want a war with NATO, it would be suicide. Honestly, NATO needs Russia if things ever go hot with China.
I think the more likely scenario is that a Ukraine attacks a NATO member and blames it on Russia. We know Ukraine has the ability to operate deep within Russian territory, so it wouldn’t be hard for Ukraine to stage an attack from inside Russian or Belarusian territory to attack NATO.

I think russia knows it cannot handle NATO as they can barely handle ukraine. Russian citizens are really feeling the effects of the war and putin has nothing to show. Those drones earlier in the week in poland was more so i think for scaring poland into investing more into its own defense for a war that likely wont come – or will happen way too far in the future so that whatever weapons, ammo, tech theyre storing will be largely obsolete (like russia using ww2/cold war era equipment).
By scaring countries into thinking russia might start a war with them (which imo russia doesnt want), it scares them away from sending their tanks, arty shells, defense systems, etc. to ukraine. Without nato support ukraine wouldve crumbled. By slowing down supplies from nato countries who are scared of their own conflict with russia, they will gain more land and more territory for the russian people, claim it as a ‚victory‘ and appease the russian people and gives putin an out for the horrible conditions for the past few months.
By striking poland, id assume they would largely avoid any population centers and strike in the middle of the woods or military targets only. This might be a gamble to try to provoke a massive defensive response from poland + NATO where russia hopes it justifies a partial mobilization -> focus away from sending supplies to ukraine and keep them in poland (i believe almost all supplies sent to ukraine go to poland first anyways) so NATO wastes time trying to defend poland against largely nothing while russia concentrates even more on gaining territory from ukraine and eventually come to a peace deal
