      Ireland has some of the most restrictive defamation laws on earth. Even stating a *true, evidenced fact* that could damage someone’s public character is unlawful here. Gagging threats have become common against journalists since the law was introduced in 2009.

      Ireland has one of the most restrictive defamation laws in Europe. We have had everyone from Denis O’Brien, to Mary Lou use these laws in order to gag opinion.

      We have constitutional right to freedom of expression, outlined in Article 40.6.1.i, but this right is not absolute and can be limited to uphold public order, morality, and the authority of the State. PK is wrong.
