      >“Russia’s ever-increasing testing of borders and aggressiveness must be responded to by rapidly strengthening political and economic pressure,“

I feel like political and economic pressure have been properly applied since at least February 2022, and it doesn’t seem to be doing much to prevent stuff like this.

Putin badly wants to drag NATO into war to use an excuse why he failed in Ukraine.

    3. Evil_Potatos on

Putin wants NATO to keep air defense for themselves instead of giving it to Ukraine.

    4. lesmainsdepigeon on

Lock down all airspace over Ukraine and elsewhere. Anything incoming gets caught in the NATO umbrella, full-stop.

I haven’t read the article, but I’m going to guess they „condemn it“ and will speak to the ambassador and essentially do nothing.

    6. At this point it’s time to just shot that shit down no questions asked, Turkey did it and nothing happened

So the political and military equivalent of a stern finger wag. Got it.

I would be curious to know how common this is, the RAF are scrambled every other month is seems for Russian planes getting close to British airspace.

It does feel like this is Russia testing the boundaries of what they can get away with.

    9. Opening-Employee9802 on

NATO responds by, ‘condemning in the strongest possible terms Russias aggression towards the NATO parters, blah blah’. Then sanctions. Haven’t read the article but I think this is pretty much the gist of it.

I have no doubt that at this rate in the next couple of weeks or so one of us will end up shooting down a Russian jet.

Hate to say it but we can’t allow Putin doing this to become the new normal.

Article 4 has been triggered by Estonia. Only the 9th time since NATO’s founding. This is the second time this month

recent weapon packages from EUs royally fking him. Putin wants EU countries to hold weapons and money to defend their own country not to Ukraine.

    13. JadedArgument1114 on

Shoot them down. Claim that you thought they were ufos and let Russia choose if they want to kick shit off or not. *SPOILER they will not want to kick shit off and they will be more careful like they were with Turkey

    14. chrisloveys on

Other NATO states should copy Turkey. When a Ruzzian military jet flew into their airspace a couple years ago they simply shot it down. No more incursions since I believe.

    15. Dreadedvegas on

Where is the kinetic sanctions? Aka shooting down Russian planes that enter NATO airspace?

    16. Equivalent_Joke_6163 on

NATO should warn Putin that for every drone or violation of airspace that three Russian refineries would be completely destroyed.

Defining a no-fly zone in Ukraine and for each violation, Crimea would be attacked by Ukrainians with the necessary war material provided by NATO starting with the famous bridge.

An eye for an eye a tooth for a tooth.

As many times as this has happened, especially of late, why don’t we just shoot them down once in a while? I understand this is provocation, but Russia continues to do this, I believe, because they don’t think NATO will do anything. Sending a few of their planes into the dirt after repeated warnings and escalating fears seems justified to me and may make them reconsider provocation like this in the future.

And I’ll be pre-emptive here, I ncase someone says it. I don’t think this would lead to war. Russia cant even gain significant ground against Ukraine. They certainly won’t want to open a new front with NATO. They don’t have the men or equipment to properly hold such a huge border.

    18. thanosbananos on

Shoot that shit down immediately, tf are they waiting for. Gentle parenting Russia doesn’t work.

    19. Typingdude3 on

Elephant in the room is China. They will never let Russia fail, run out of money, or run out of customers for its oil. NATO can respond to Russia but will be ignored as usual. Provocations just keep getting bigger.

    20. Natural-Net-1513 on

Sometimes I wish NATO was even 10% as bad as the worthless vatnik hordes pretend.
Declare that any airspace violations that clearly isn’t a genuine mistake will be seen as hostile and shoot them down if they do not clear within xx minutes.
Lavrov can sit and shit his usual complaints all he wants. Don’t send your garbage into NATO airspace then, you cancer of a nation.

    21. Russia is running tests to determine response times and reactions for their upcoming plan to invade more countries.

    22. Stunning_Mediocrity on

Anything short of a kinetic response won’t mean shit to Russia.

    23. Plenty_Ambassador424 on

Fund and help Ukraine build a couple hundred flamingos for every violation and they will stop that shit very quickly.

    24. I wonder how they choose the pilots. Is it random? Is it a terrible one that they don’t mind loosing? Is it a good one cause these missions are risky?

    25. shoot it down. putin will not do anything about it. plus it will further damage his image in russia.

    26. Baileythetraveller on

The answer is to hold NATO air-games over Romania. Force the Russians to track all the plane activity. Then Ukraine can take the opportunity to send a few planes and missiles to blow the Kerch Bridge to hell.

A firm message, with consequences, but not a pure escalation. That’s how I would play this stupid game.

    27. Nightspirit_ on

Since the drone incident over Poland I’ve been feeling Russia is trying to do a suicide by nato. One can dream

    28. as economic and general woes get worse in russia they could try to go all in against europe, why not

    29. I wouldn’t be surprised if Russia pulled an MH17 again in a NATO country. Drones meant for Ukraine “accidentally” flying into passenger jets

    30. robert-tech on

If this is Putin testing the waters as others say, it’s an absolute joke. He can barely make progress in Ukraine, yet people are claiming he’s planning a NATO incursion of some sorts.

    31. Darth_Groot28 on

Just shoot them down.. Simple as that. Make Russia respond or fire something so slow that Russia could evade or destroy it easily. Say that was just a warning. Next time it is destroyed. Anything Russian that enters NATO air space. An ultimatum has to be drawn and they are not really doing it…

    32. Soon they will claim it was because they mistakenly jammed their own navigation systems
