It’s a catch 22.
If they extend the amnesty, they are continuing to prove that it was a lie when the previous government claimed this was an issue too urgent and critical to pass via legislation.
If they don’t extend the amnesty, they make millions of Canadians criminals with no system in place to enter compliance given the buyback is still years and billions of dollars away.
And canceling it outright would be a massive loss of face and kills the golden wedge issue.
Don’t worry this is the same minister that doesn’t know what an RPAL is, I’m sure financial genius Carney won’t waste billions of dollars on a program that every expert is saying is a waste of money.
