The United States once again vetoed a U.N. Security Council resolution Thursday that had demanded for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza and the release of hostages after saying that the effort did not go far enough in condemning Hamas.
All 14 other members of the United Nations’ most powerful body voted in favor of the resolution, which described the humanitarian situation in Gaza as “catastrophic” and called on Israel to lift all restrictions on the delivery of aid to the 2.1 million Palestinians in the territory. The outcome further highlights U.S. and Israeli isolation on the world stage regarding the nearly two-year [war in Gaza](https://apnews.com/hub/israel-hamas-war).
There are a lot of things wrong with the UN, but single party veto in the security counsel is the absolute worst.

Even if everyone agreed on it, would it have mattered? Would it imply any meaningful change on the ground? I don’t think so. So who cares, apart from journalists?

There should be a vote taken on a resolution demanding Hamas surrender immediately.
Then we could see which countries vote against that idea.

Well, lets be honest – UN is completely dysfunctional and teethless thanks to security council and permanent members. USA, Russia and China are engaged in almost every conflict on earth and obviously will always veto any resolution condemning their allies. There is simply nothing UN can do to stop/prevent conflicts.

Great.
Who is going to enforce it?

The only problem I see in Gaza is called Hamas. With Hamas out of the equation, peace and prosperity will come to the peaceful people left in Gaza. Hamas enslave and terrorize its own people and uses it to condemn Israel. Israel left Gaza, who came in after? Did things get better or worse? In today’s world, UN is a useless entity whose only job is to promote what’s wrong, to promote tirany and evil. The reason for its foundation was left behind many years ago. Dictatorships get seats and positions of influence. UN hiding Covid from the world, millions died. UN needs a complete redesign, a new and fresh relaunch with a better image to the world.

What’s the point of UN when P5 can veto anything they want. They might as well admit that UN is nothing more than an oligarchy of P5.
