Also a friendly reminder that Mars is an absolute shithole. I mean so is the Moon in terms of places to live, but Mars is possibly even worse on its own merits, and has the additional disadvantage of being 6-9 months (and a whole lot more money) away from Earth, rather than 3 days for the Moon.

You could even *terraform* the Moon easier than you could Mars (for a given insane scale of „easy“). If you could somehow get enough nitrogen and oxygen there to form a thick enough breathable atmosphere, it would last for up to thousands of years.

It is for these reasons that I cannot overstate how important it is for the billionaires to colonize Mars.
