Central banks have been printing too much money and creating inflation. How about that reality Mr Central Banker.

I actually think the Gov increasing the budget is a good idea, but the problem is that its all being spent on things that are ongoing costs rather than one off things like infrastructure.
Its as plain as day that what will happen when the next downturn starts is we’ll all be asking where did all the money we’ve spent the last 10 years making go as we dont really have anything to show for it. Just tax breaks for hotels and loose spending on overpriced services.

Day to day spending is clearly out of control, and until such time as we get a proper centre-right party into power it will remain that way. We are inevitably heading towards yet another „unexpected downturn in the public finances“ moment when a recession strikes, and this time both FG and FF will be responsible.

Bonkers that we’re apparently committed to a €1bn VAT cut for restaurants at a time of full employment
I fully believe restaurants are struggling with costs, I would much rather see that billion go into eg energy infrastructure to reduce costs for everyone (including restaurants)

We got maybe one of the biggest per capita windfall a of any nation in history over the last few years through corporate taxes.
Some wanted mass house building. Others wanted improvement of services and amenities. Others wanted infrastructure, like a fast Cork/Limerick/Galway train line that could transform the west coast, make that trio a viable alternative to Dublin, and alleviate housing and infrastructural demands in the process. Most of us wanted a mix of these kinds of things.
Instead, FFG seem intent on speed running wasting as much of it as they can, and of course getting into the hands of the „right people“ like Seamus McEnaney.
They will face exactly zero consequences for this. But even if they do in the next election it’ll be too late, and nearly all of that money will have been siphoned out.

How long before they change the headline?
