They shoulda put Jackie Chan instead of her for that position.
A neutral country with 5 million people on a island on the outskirts of Europe with as close to zero of a modern military a developed nation could have. And we are the right people to take charge ?😂
Sustainability has metamorphosed into security in a word salad of semantics and spin. Nothing speaks to protecting the environment like building up the war machine.
I wonder what’s the carbon footprint of Israel in Gaza or Russia in Ukraine. You never hear much mention of that.
If you want war, prepare for war. When goods stop crossing borders armies start.
The dogs of war are doing everything they can to open the gates of hell for the lot of us. Be careful what you wish for.
Yeah no worries Jackie. You and your family will be the first there with the Steyr, will ye yiz??
I want the drugs this person is clearly on
Should we ask the French for some nukes?
how about no , the EU is not a military alliance , if eu want an millitray allliance NATO exists
if its such an issue for you , why dont you sign up to go to war
Can’t see the full article but how is anyone ever going to take Ireland serious when we are among the biggest jokes in the entire EU when it comes to defence?
We freeload to an incredible degree off the defence spending of other countries and our geographical location for our security, all while lecturing others and moralising about defence spending. If anything European countries would do well not to listen to a single thing we have to say on defence.
Ease off on doing lines of photocopier toner Jackie.
Why „must“ Ireland do anything relating to security policy of any other sovereign state, or a not-quite-sovereign collection of sovereign states? And why would they even care. Feck off.
Let’s ask the permission of Catherine Connolly, Paul Murphy, Kremlin Clare Daly and Moscow Mick Wallace first…
We aren’t fighters. We’re bleeders.

If Ireland’s the only one that can be trusted to take charge of this then we really are fucked aren’t we?
While I hate warmongering and I shudder at the thought of our nation going to war, it’s unreasonable to assume that we can maintain self-determination and national autonomy without some kind of military force that, relative to our neighbours, is worth writing home about.
Even regarding security of our coast from trawlers hauling drugs, the distribution systems of which are a poison to society. A well-equipped and well-staffed navy would be a worthwhile impediment.
In much the same way a tolerant society will not stand if it tolerates intolerance, a neutral country will not last if it cannot defend its neutrality. Ironically, I believe neutrality is a position worth fighting for.
Ireland is a disgrace the way we’re neglecting our own defense and creating a vulnerability for the rest of Europe. We don’t need to join NATO or go the route or the Nordics in terms of spending. But we should at least be able to monitor what’s going on in our seas and air space and have the ability to respond to threats.
War Mongers gonna monger
For a split second I read that as Jackie chan
So we increase defence spending, but what happens in the future when the Irish people are used to the funding increase, and they need to cut back elsewhere? They’ll take from other areas like social spending, as has happened in multiple western countries already.
I wonder if Russia attacked Ireland, would the countries willing to come to our aid be labelled „warmongers“ by the usual suspects? Funny, how that term only gets used to describe those against Russian imperialism.
