      The report was carried out by the UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, which has been investigating the events on and since 7 October, 2023, for the last two years.

      It concluded that the Israeli state and its security forces committed four of the five genocidal acts outlined under international law.

      These are: killing, causing serious bodily or mental harm, deliberately inflicting conditions of life calculated to bring about the destruction of the Palestinians in whole or in part, and imposing measures intended to prevent births.

      The report said this had taken place both within Gaza and against Palestinians in Israeli jails.

      “The commission finds that Israel is responsible for the commission of genocide in Gaza,” said Navi Pillay, chair of the commission. “It is clear that there is an intent to destroy the Palestinians in Gaza through acts that meet the criteria set forth in the Genocide Convention.”

      The UK, which had previously stopped short of calling the actions genocide, has been[ highly critical of Israeli policy towards Palestinians](https://inews.co.uk/news/politics/raf-aid-drop-gaza-starmer-starvation-indefensible-3827070?srsltid=AfmBOoowpStKRkBzeb1gGmWw9o7Szzun8t9_ToQH6-tgCx3_dh-UNilj&ico=in-line_link) and [suspended the arms licences of 30 weapons](https://inews.co.uk/news/what-weapons-affected-uk-suspension-export-licences-israel-3257560?srsltid=AfmBOoqBDQ_vYPQvwPqawGitDB-KI0YrNG0FW5AJcWC4UQRG1BFTyf4G&ico=in-line_link) it believed might be being used “in violations of international humanitarian law”.

      So let’s summarize:

      If Israel doesn’t warn civilians in advance to move away from areas it’s going to attack because Hamas hides behind the Gaza population and the civilians die, it’s Israel’s fault.

      If Israel does warn civilians in advance to move for their safety so that Israel can attack Hamas with fewer civilian casualties, it’s also Israel’s fault for „forced displacement“.

      So, as usual, Hamas gets to commit literally tens of thousands instances of war crimes over the past two decades and is not responsible or punished in any way whatsoever, and Israel tries to act responsibly towards the populace that elected, supports, and celebrated the 7/10 attacks and it’s the one committing genocide.

      Nice. Only more reason to disregard the UN as a joke.

      If even the most aggressive and nationalistic President America has ever had cannot do anything to stay Israel’s hand, how does an accusation by the UN matter?

      The UN has not accused Israel of genocide. The UNCHR does not speak for the UN.

      From the [BBC article](https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c8641wv0n4go.amp) on the subject:

      > The UN says it cannot make a legal determination as to whether a situation constitutes genocide under international law. It says a situation is referred to as genocide only after a competent national or international court has declared it as such.
