The triple lock must be scrapped. It is economic suicide.
Cool, so just another 8 or 9 billion for the chancellor to find down the back of the sofa, every year, forever, in addition to the £138 billion it already costs.
Very good and sustainable.
So working age families will have to pay more tax or accept far worse public services to support pensioners who live in mortgage free houses.
To make matters more frustrating they achieved those properties often with one working parent.
Oh and those houses they live in are now unaffordable doing the same jobs they did back in the day
Some generations have all the luck… why is everything so damn one sided. How about we give younger generations a chance?!
Already the biggest welfare bill by far. The Tories really set a trap with this policy. It’s rapidly bankrupting the country and will get worse every year.
The last 15 years of economic growth have been funneled into pensions and social care. Tbe previous 30 had been dumped into tax cuts for that same generation.
Its the greatest looting of the state ever imagined.
The state pension should be tied directly to the budget surplus of the prior 50 years. Of rhere wasnt one, tough shit.

The triple lock should be scrapped but while pensioners are the only ones that tend to vote in a great numbers it would be political suicide for the party that scrapped it. Hopefully lowering the voting age may help to redress the balance
I’d fucking love a near 5 percent pay increase. But most of us will be getting at least a real terms cut to pay for this. Fuck the triple lock.

We really should stop funneling all the wealth from the workers to the retired. Boomers should pick themselves up by the bootstraps. They’ve had their whole lives to save up for their retirement. If they don’t have enough to support their lifestyles they should go get a job like the rest of us.

LMAO of course they will…… It’s been wild as a millennial ! i’m paying for a pension scheme that I will likely never see myself. I’m honestly expecting it to be means tested long before I get there.
If pensioners are mostly voting for Reform or Tories, why doesn’t Labour bite the bullet and scrap triple lock? It will help them save money for spending somewhere else that is needed for their actual voter base.
It’s actually fucked. Limiting winter fuel payments was probably the biggest factor in making this government so unpopular. Changing the triple lock would be electoral suicide. At this point, pensioners are essentially a protected political class and idk how any government can possibly deal with it.
But still one of the poorest state pensions in Western Europe.
So Labour turn around every six months and drone on about „tough decisions“ and „broadest shoulders“ while they spunk billions in tax revenues up the wall on this mental unqualified handout

This is literally taking food out of the mouths of and clothes off the backs of children of working parents to fund the future inheritance of the middle class.
I’ll say it again, land tax, a few quid tourist tax, mega corporation tax for companies that use local roads and infrastructure but divvent pay for them (cough cough Amazon I’m lookin at you Bezos!) and holiday home tax in tourist driven microeconomies.

Can someone explain to me why the state pension is locked at or above inflation but wages aren’t? Surely for one to be the other has to be as well?
