Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez on Monday urged international sports bodies to ban Israel from competition, comparing its military campaign in Gaza to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Sánchez said sports organizations must decide if it is ethical to let Israel continue to compete, citing Russia’s prior expulsion.

His remarks followed Sunday’s chaotic end to the Vuelta a España, when pro-Palestinian activists disrupted the final stage in Madrid, injuring 22 people.

And also ban them out of Eurovision.

Nothing again the athletes or singers, but against what the country they represent is doing to other human beings. It’s against the spirit of the Olympics and Eurovision.

Russia invaded Ukraine because they wanted to absorb it and make it part of Russia.

Gaza invaded Israel because they wanted to absorb it and make it part of Palestine. The two situations aren’t the same.

This is an honest question…..how is Spain reconquista different from Israel’s re-establishment? Israel’s reconquista was infinitely less bloody and was endorsed internationally. How is Spain’s legitimacy different?

Personally I think sport should be free from politics but all athletes making any political manifestation, especially related to ongoing conflict should be harshly punished.

Also if we go this way as spanish PM wants then we need to ban athletes from: Israel,Palestine,Ukraine,Russia,Belarus,North Korea, USA, Libya, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, India, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Nigeria, Congo and so on.

    7. „Why expel Russia after the invasion of Ukraine and not expel Israel after the invasion of Gaza?“

    8. And what next? Just stop oil see this is an effective way to get attention and protest the next grand tour? Or some other group? Political ideology aside, these protests have destroyed a sporting event, an event that brings a lot of money to these regions with tourism, an event that attracts people into the sport. One of the major tours of the year. It was a criminally dangerous stunt that ran the risk of serious injury to professional athletes. Instead of punishing the athletes, they should be punishing the criminals. This is not the way to protest.
