    1. I love Nate, have for years, but this is privilege speaking. I respect the decision to not bring up politics himself, but if he were of any other demographic, that decision would have been made for him. It’s easy to ‘escape’ politics when your existence isn’t inherently seen as political (ie being queer, nonwhite, etc).

    2. Self proclaimed “dumb” Southerner who gets most of his money from conservatives, constantly says he’s apolitical yet takes smiling photos with Republicans like Vivek Ramaswamy

Choosing to not stand up for anything is not being apolitical, it’s making a political choice.  Nate lives politically in all he does, and caters to where his bread is buttered

Dude is boring and generic. Nothing exciting at all about him. Nate, Might as well be soulless corporation, the comedian, at this point.

I think every now and then this is the correct move. I mean honestly, politics is everywhere all the time, do you really want to always have it? *All the time?*

I think also that sometimes people don’t take into account that being overly political can cause more harm than good. A lot of middle of the road voters get very turned off by what they feel is constant celebrity lecturing. It can drive resentment

Was this dude “heartbroken” after Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark? If not then he’s just talking out his ass.

Comments are reminding me how exhausting it must be to live on the political extremes.

Sorry, no. MAGA doesn’t get to drape a murder over their actions as some defense or weak effort of needing to come together. Especially when it was self inflicted and they spurned any togetherness when Democrats were killed by them.

Idk I see the points people are making in here but I think it’s a privileged take to even be apolitical, some people don’t have that choice

      Soft.

But good for old “middle of the road” Nate. Would expect nothing less from someone reliant on providing comforting slice of life laughs to the mediocre dimwits offended by anyone saying shitty people should stop doing shitty things.

This is compliance. Condoning child rape. So the illusion can continue.

I’m totally fine with that. It’s nice to have a break….

As long as it’s not on, say, a network that’s trying to bow down or anything 🤷🏼‍♂️

Typical celebrity putting their head in the sand. Its not ‘politics’ dummy is fascism, and the bad guys are winning.

Nate Bargatze is so comedically inoffensive that I am going to co-opt and create a new term, at this very moment, for how it felt to watch him.

      Co-worker comedy.

Everyone here saying he needs to speak up about politics and the current climate as if that’s not what every celebrity has been doing for the past 10 years. And yet here we are under trump no amount of hippy dippy speeches from Tom hanks has ever moved the needle

One thing I really respect about Nate. He knows he doesn’t know much about politics, so he doesn’t bring it up.

    16. This was the most boring show I have seen. You can be fun without being political. This was just bland.

    17. The guy was already starting the innocuous boys and girls club money raising thing before all this happened. So as this show focused on that it’s fine. He was fine, not great but fine.

    18. No matter what I’ll say I thought he did terrible tonight. Not funny at all.

    19. ParkJumpy6392 on

Political or not, Bargatze was a boring, awful host. He didn’t even find himself funny. Jennifer Coolidge should be the host next year.

Art will always be political. Even an apolitical stance is still a political stance

    21. ChorkusLovesYou on

Fair. He probably doesn’t want to deal with months of getting grilled afterwards.

    22. I doubt many people are actually heartbroken. Just an excuse to escalate rhetoric and violence.

    23. Commemorative-Banana on

Our reality is an unfortunate one, and you’ll have to grieve to accept this truth. During the rise of fascism it is your democratic civil duty to care about politics. *Comedy helps us digest these harsh introspections*; there’s the full circle moment for you on why Nate abstaining to use his platform is a shame.

    24. millenialpinko on

I don’t care what his politics are, the entire show was just a commitment to one “joke” of not giving money to a charity where it was so obvious that he would in the end. No other jokes whatsoever, as bland as watching paint dry. Just truly a wasted opportunity compared to Conan at the Oscars, who similarly did not feel the need to be blatantly partisan but at least was fucking FUNNY

    25. YOSHIMIvPROBOTS on

Him not being political as the host is fine. The problem was that he forgot to write nonpolitical jokes.

The opening bit is a recycle of something he’s done multiple times on SNL.

The announcement of the charity clock was funny, but it became the only thing he talked about and he didn’t have any witty jokes regarding it as the night went on. Suggesting the swear jar was like the one funny thing he said.

Even the denim tux…it was funny visually, but then he didn’t write a joke to accompany that visual.
