the drug that makes people get the „munchies“ and eat more, increases risk of type 2 diabetes, heavily linked to people overweight? seems logical, at least.

I mean this has to be due to people stuffing their face with junk food.
a cross sectional study compares populations of thc users to non users. a longitudinal study assesses the development of a condition in each individual over time.
„The present study suggests that there is no association between cannabis use and subsequent type 2 diabetes after controlling for age. To make more robust conclusions prospective studies, with longer periods of follow-up and more detailed information about cannabis use, are needed. “
The current aggregate of peer reviewed evidence on the topic, imo, does not support a causal association between thc use and t2d.
there are quite a few cross sectional studies in the past that even show mild negative correlations between thc use and t2d. perhaps when this analysis is actually out, it will influence conclusions in the other direction considering it has such a large sample size. but it is not out yet.

“Despite the important findings, this is a retrospective study and cannot prove that cannabis use causes diabetes, and the authors cannot rule out the possibility that other unmeasured factors may have influenced the results despite efforts to reduce confounding bias via propensity score matching. This study has limitations due to a lack of detailed cannabis consumption data and potential misclassification”.
This is precisely why such studies should be encouraged and people should be able to openly report usage without negative consequence.

I wonder what we could have learned about this drug if we treated it as a medication instead of using it to desensitize entire generations and wage a war on drugs.

I already have diabetes, if I continue to consume cannabis will I develop super diabetes?

From it by itself or from munchies?

I’ve lost 11kg since starting cannabis. I think mostly because I lost the desire to drink, so even with the munchies I’m consuming less sugar/alcohol. But I can also see it causing an increase in appetite and decrease in motivation to be mobile, which for those who don’t drink to begin with could lead to weight gain and the associated insulin resistance and diabetes risks.

Frequency of use, average THC level, daily eating habits, and daily activity/exercise levels need to be factored in to studies like this.

As I have deep mistrust with our corporate owned politicians I suspect that this is laying some misinformation groundwork for all the diabetes cases increasing now. It CANNOT be the corn syrup and sugar in everything so shift the blame to weed.

Twinkie intake goes up 650%, Doritos intake 345%, Diabeetus rates quadruple.
This is unpublished work scheduled to be pressented at a scientific conference and has not undergone peer review.
it seems to be based primarily on epidemiological data and patient reported cannabis use and appears to be cross sectional.
most epidemiological work is unable to demonstrate causal relationships. the only exception to this is with the use of mendelian randomization methods
