We spent €140 Billion bailing out their investors (in our banks) and now they are using that money to buy up all our assets. Yet somehow Russia is the great enemy.
This checks out. Most houses around me are American/English holiday homes.
I wonder how many years it will take the government to admit that foreigners buying up property in Ireland is a large part of our problem. It’s sounds nice and „Far-Right“ right now but I’ll give them a couple of years.

We need a ban on non-citizens purchasing property like other western countries have done including Canada, Australia and New Zealand
Crazy how other countries have rules where foreigners have be living in the country for a certain numb of years to b able to buy a house, some don’t allow foreign investors at all..

The article insinuates that a lot of gay and lesbian couples are buying up the houses, when it’s typically straight and often retired couples who buy them. Does it really matter what their sexuality is? The issue is they’re outpricing locals
I wish they would do the same report on how many Indians are moving here and buying up houses also. I think people would be shocked at how many houses it is.

Yeah and then it goes up on Air Bnb at €3000 per week as a holiday rental for 11 months of the year.
I lived near Westport for a few years and I was one of the lucky ones who could rent a nice gaff at a reasonable price. There was literally nothing esle around for the locals other than scraps because so many homes were being used as holiday rentals. Zero legislation against it.
Small landlords are going to be leaving the rental market by 2026 due to government action. It looks like a firesale to Vulture & Cookoo Funds. House prices are over valued in Ireland due to private equity. One of the main complaints Irish people have is not being able to find somewhere to live. It’s very fustrating to try to live in Ireland and the housing policy makes no sense. Is everyone asleep?
People are talking about bans, but the property sold is already in foreign hands. Now you tax, penalise and enforce. Property is seen as an investment these days (rest in piss to the capitalist who promote the idea), just gotta spoil the game, making be a money loser than an earner
If you had to live here for a year before being allowed to purchase and could not buy to rent without having to sign up to a rent control scheme tied to the value of the house, we suddenly wouldn’t have a housing crisis in this country.
