President Trump has said that all Nato members must stop buying Russian oil and impose punitive 50 per cent tariffs on China before he would consider new sanctions on Moscow to force an end to the Ukraine war.
Trump wrote to Nato members setting out his conditions for further US pressure on President Putin to end what he called “Biden’s and Zelensky’s war” — referring to his predecessor and the Ukrainian president, and omitting the Russian president.
His ultimatum came after Russia missed several of his deadlines to commit to a peace process, most recently after his Alaska summit with Putin and talks with President Zelensky and European leaders almost a month ago
