Turkey might be the most self-sufficient country in the region, in terms of of defense industry. It won’t loose anything if it doesn’t join it

If you pay attention to what is happening, at the end of the day it won’t matter. Even if hypothetically the veto passes, Turkey has created a „backdoor“ through Italy by the merging of [Leonardo with Baykar](https://breakingdefense.com/2025/03/italys-leonardo-and-turkeys-baykar-ink-agreement-for-uav-joint-venture/). What that effectively means, is that even if there is another crisis in the Mediterranean (spoiler – there *will* be), Turkey can still sell arms and profit throughout the period.
The only „strategic partner“ of Greece and Cyprus is Israel and they have rightfully lost the support of most of the world due to the military/Intelligence Community’s behaviour in Gaza and abroad. The way they forced us to completely decouple from Russia means that we have „aligned“ ourselves with a nation in crisis and when you look at history, whenever they experience a crisis we do also. Lastly, the „Greater Israel“ project also includes Cyprus – a fact not many want to reconcile with.

Turkiye needs to take in the European mindset and make amends first. Resolve the Aegean dispute. Start being a reliable European ally. Get the military off Cyprus.

Turkey illegally occupies half of one of the eu countries. How can it be in any EU defence program?

Ah Turkey that still illegally occupies Christian EU territory? Sure let’s allow them to defend Europe.

As a Turk who was born and raised in Turkey, I support it. Turkey will not improve until it is thoroughly humiliated. Think of the Germans after WWI. That’s the Turkish national psyche. For the good of Turkey itself as well as the broader region/neighbors, Turkey needs a proverbial Berlin 1945 moment whereby Turks will have to process and accept that the world isn’t having Turkey’s bs anymore.

Turkey should not even be in NATO nevermind joining the EU defence program or even joining the EU. No one even knows why this anti western country is even in NATO.

let them recognise the armenian genocide first, it’s the first step to show that they can be part of EU.

I’d be happy to be an ally with Türkiye any time. Imagine what the prosperity for both nations could be if we were close allies. But close-mindedness, toxic nationalism and a cult of personality is deeply rooted within Turkish society. The polices of their governments, trouble with virtually EVERY neighboring country, are just a reflection of their society. They think they can just invade every country they want and think themselves superior ti everyone. They even confuse war with sports, who’s gonna forget their football players saluting militarily? Or the chants about throwing people into the sea?
As long as they do not change their mindset to that of a democratic, peace-loving one, yes, I support Greece’s vetos on everything concerning Türkiye.

Turkey just recently decided to double the number of military forces stationed on Cyprus. Why would you support their military program, what good can come out of it? Only more imperialism in the Caucasus and the Middle East.

It’s the only thing we can do.
We all know that Turkey will use the resources given to it by the European Union to wage more proxy wars and develop an expanding arms industry which will be primarily used to oppress its neighbours.

Definitely support it. The constant threats against Greece in the Aegean, and above all the occupation of northern Cyprus must stop. I know Turkey is in NATO but I don’t consider them an ally.

Yes I support it. Turkey needs to take on a more European approach to how it deals with its people internally; neighboring countries externally; stop occupying an EU member country.

Downvote this all you want but Greece and Cyprus don’t actually have any „allies“ – not in Europe and not anywhere. This is exemplified by the recent authorization of the selling of [METEOR missiles](https://www.euronews.com/2025/01/30/greek-defence-minister-demands-france-explain-sale-of-missiles-to-turkey) by France (the only country to have [mutual ‚defence agreement‘ ](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Franco-Greek_defence_agreement#:~:text=The%20Franco%2DGreek%20defence%20agreement,attacked%20by%20a%20third%20country)with Greece) to Turkey.
