It’s funny if I remplace Azerbaijan by America it still fits.
Russian vassal states – old or new – do tend to end up the same way. Dictatorships in their own unique ways.

Travelling across the Caucasus and Central Asia it was the only country where the policemen actively shook you down for a bribe.
It is not necessarily a good thing to put a political regime into perspective with its religious connotation.
