The recent response from Trump has me concerned. I see a growing posture against America’s long standing trade and defense partners.

I know this was kind of expected; but at this point, I am concerned that truly abandoning them will be the point of no return for the USA.

Our Pacific treaties, our other defense partners… how will any of them trust us? Does this not show China that Taiwan will get no help if pressed. I’m terrified the incompetency from the White House is going to cause a full collapse.

Obviously there are concerns that were trump to take North America out of NATO, Putin would be emboldened to attack its Eastern flanks. I don’t see how he could possibly see any good coming from it though given the struggles they are having against Ukraine.

If the Europeans are serious they could build a very credible force as deterrent within 5 – 10 years including expansion of the nuclear umbrella lead by France and the UK. The EU has 3 times the population and 8 times the economic power of Russia. However that will all depend on political will and I am not certain about that
Edit: I would fully expect that they would move a lot closer to China and India ( economically). The US would lose all credibility and trust for a generation at least

    4. The real question will be what the generals do. The US is legally bound to the NATO treaty. Trump can’t legally ignore that treaty. The US military is sworn, above all, to uphold the constitution and the laws of the nation.

Same thing that has been going on with politics in the US for the last 10 years.

      Not a dang thing.
