I hope there is someone in the Department of ~~Defense~~ War who was engaging in malicious compliance there („I don’t read them, I just send them to the list of people *you* told me to“), or it was „accidentally“ done in a completely anonymous manner.
But, rank incompetence by a loyal Trump flunky is *also* acceptable.

Morale has been dropping for years and leadership just pretends everything is fine. Accidentally sending it to the press is kinda funny though, but also just shows how disconnected the higher-ups are from what’s actually happening.
Was it done through a Signal chat too? Seems to be common among people associated with the word “war”
The army has been running an awfully high training optempo since the gwot drawdown. „Peacetime“ garrison military is a lot different than wartime military, and of course skill building and equipment maintenance needs to be completed but it sounds like a lot of these guys and gals in command positions are going overboard trying to captain sobel their way into limited promotion slots.
So, the Guard are apparently smart enough to realize that Trump is treating them as cartoon puppets in a pathetic cosplay. I’d be ashamed, too, if I were one of them.
I’d be disillusioned too if my pretend commander-in-chief sent me away from my home and job and then purposefully made it so i got paid less than i should and had to sleep on the floor all to deal with a fake crisis.
What they don’t want to stand around and pick up trash for an idiot’s publicity stunt?

They didn’t sign up to keep the opposition party (of the administration) in line. These National guard members are being pulled away from their families and regular jobs to put the fear of god in their own people, not only immigrants (legal or illegal). This has got to hurt their psychological well-being.

I’d be upset too if I was used as a pawn in a cold civil war when trying to serve honorably.

I agree that „walk off the job“ is the path of honor. There needs to be a non-profit that supports troops who do the right thing. These people signed up to give their bodies and minds to serve us all, not a vicious, entitled bigot dictator. Walk off the job of serving Rump, and we will fundraise to take care of you the way the VA should. These soldiers are being sent to make war on the citizenry. This is going to be an expensive fight if it is to be stopped. Are we too broke fiscally and morally to engage?
