      Umm… I’m damn happy he is running for mayor and I hope he wins, but this is stupid and performative. The NYPD cannot arrest someone who hasn’t committed a crime in New York, and Benny would have diplomatic immunity even if he did. He’s just sucking up to the base. He needs to only be talking about real shit he can do.

      What NYC laws were violated? And when does a mayor, as opposed to police and prosecutors apply to judges for arrest warrants? A good candidate just trying to some dumb stuff…

      How come only Trump and his collaborators in Congress, Senate, and the Supreme Court get to break norms?

      A provision in the American Servicemembers Protection Act permits the arrest of individuals with ICC warrants. Why can’t the other side exploit loopholes for once?

      Please don’t jump the shark. A city mayor has no sway over foreign affairs of this magnitude no matter how much I would like to see this. I don’t want him approaching serious City agendas with unrealistic hopium.

      There is precedence he can do it.  The Ker–Frisbie doctrine is a legal principle stating that a court’s jurisdiction over a defendant is not diminished by the fact that the defendant was brought before the court through illegal or forcible abduction from a foreign country or another state. Established in Ker v. Illinois (1886) and reaffirmed in Frisbie v. Collins (1952), this rule holds that illegal apprehension does not invalidate a conviction or the court’s power to try the individual for their crime. 

      In United States v. Alvarez-Machain (1992), the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that the forcible abduction of a Mexican citizen by U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) agents from Mexico did not violate the extradition treaty between the two countries or international law, and therefore did not prevent his trial in the United States. The Court held that the manner in which a defendant is brought before a court does not affect the court’s jurisdiction, a principle established in prior cases like Ker v. Illinois and Frisbie v. Collins.

      Idk why people say it’s performative. He’s basically saying he will follow international law and our obligations. Nothing wrong with that.

      Ok, but won’t he run into diplomatic immunity issues? Also, if it’s on behalf of the ICC, unfortunately, the US didn’t ratify the treaty establishing it. Mamdani’s gonna have trouble fulfilling this promise, in my opinion
