      Map of bogs where these roads survived to be uncovered. Other roads were probably rebuilt into routes we still use/bohereens.

      There’s a carriage road that still exists in places between Rathcroghan and Croagh Patrick. As the name suggests, it was built for a horse carriage. They uncovered part of it by Ireland’s oldest surviving abbey, Ballintubber.

      The midlands of Ireland has a lot of cultivated bog so that probably explains why there are more there as they have been better preserved and would have been discovered during peat extraction.
