My wife and I were just discussing that almost everyone we know that has “retired” is now either back working again or in some sort of assisted living. Not looking great for us hoping to retire someday!
When it comes to 90% of Hollywood “retirement” announcements I just hear “I’m taking a break”, they either get bored, run out of money, or a great role comes to them.
Yeah in his case retired means „I’m not interested in acting, I am gonna say no to everything“
But there was always a chance he’d get bored and wanna do it again.

Professional artists announcing their retirement is always dumb.
If you don’t want to work, just don’t. The door is always open if you get interested in something down the line.
I don’t see why actors or musicians ever announce official retirement unless there’s a medical need to. You never know what the future holds; take as long a break as you need, you don’t owe anyone an explanation. Maybe you’ll work again, maybe you won’t, it doesn’t matter.
I regret saying no to more money.
