Brutal. If this guy doesn’t give me something on the environment beyond not axing the industrial carbon price, I’m going to start wondering wtf I voted for
I’d respect him more if he’d straight out say “fuck the environment.” It’s clear what he means, and couching it in this wishy-washy language makes it worse.
There’s no way Canada was going to meet the 2030 target anyways: Trudeau managed a reduction of about 8% from 2005 levels, how was Carney going to bring that up to 40% without shutting down the entire economy?
This move is not just Mark Carney, this is the Liberals as a whole, the party is realizing that they went too far left.
I think you will see them back down from a lot more.
I should tell this one to my boss. “Sorry, we significantly exceeded the budget, but I’m focused on results, not objectives.”
> The responses contrast with what Carney’s campaign told the Star during the Liberal leadership race this year: that he was “committed to not only meet but exceed Canada’s current climate targets.”
Because of course he lied. Has kept a single progressive promise that he campaigned on? This has been his entire tenure as leader: he tells you what you want to hear and then once he gets what he wants then he drops whatever assurances he provides to get it.
> Earlier this week, Industry Minister Mélanie Joly dodged a question about Canada’s climate targets, stating only that the country would hit “net-zero” emissions by 2050.
Besides the obvious fact that this is clearly a lie based on their record already, if Joly is saying this then that’s how I know it’s a lie.
