Half-mast for Kirk, but half-assed for Denver kids. Maaaan what is this country?

    2. Shouldn’t the flags be at half mast for the people we lost on 9/11? Or did we forget about that?

    3. Lol. In order for it to be selective patriotism it’d have to be patriotic in the first place. This is just a signal to his cult that they should have feelings about this.

    4. DesignerCorner3322 on

Of course he is. Kirk was his special sycophant and Hortman wasn’t

You know, everyone calls Trump a pedo, but the reality is worse. He’s a child sex trafficker.

He’s the president. This isn’t a dream. This is where we’re at. The real deep state took over the Republican Party during Trumps first term, and by any means necessary, have secured all 3 branches of the government and started to declare war on democratic institutions.

Now that that’s done, staying in power is their objective. It’s more important to them than protecting the country.

So, if you acknowledge reality you are branded a ‚critic‘?

Same kind of enabler language as „supposed Epstein birthday book“. It was written 20 years ago, it was on the possession of the Epstein estate and was delivered to congress via a subpoena. What the fuck is ’supposed‘ about it?

People die in mass-shootings and the guy doesn’t give a fuck. Rape survivors make a press conference and he flies jets above them.

Then an alt-right dude is shot and gets the medal of honor, and if you say that’s selective, you are a fucking ‚critic‘?

The general populace is so ingrained into bootlicking they can’t even notice themselves.

    7. The RW is all about selective patriotism when most of them would trade in our democracy for a dictator in a heartbeat.

    8. Thin-Competition3018 on

Trump proves daily, this is not a presidency for all people. It is a presidency for a few and his supporters feel that is how government works.

Problem is, it does not work that way.

    9. Better-Dog-2152 on

No way does Kirk deserve such honors. If anything, he made the country a worse place, not a better one. Furthermore, I thought the lowering of flags was just done for government officials. Kirk definitely isn’t one.

    10. And not just “critics,” but people with actual fucking eyeballs and general cognitive functioning, too!

    11. Trump is purposely using the sad and horrific event of Charlie Kirk’s assassination to attempt to crush the left. Full stop.

Leaders on the left have all tried to tamp down the rhetoric. Nearly all the leaders on the right are using this event to stoke hatred of the left before ANYTHING is known about the shooter.

Regardless of who the shooter is doesn’t mean that a preponderance of the left or right stoke political violence.

Wake up people, Trump is using you.

    12. Well yeah. He’s only going to do things for those he likes and who support him. A former president could pass and I doubt he’ll put it half mast.

Trump is celebrating the life of a fellow white supremacist and fascist.

    14. Trump and his base are inciting civil war. They are foaming at the mouth to kill dissidents. Americans, be safe.

    15. Practical_Willow2863 on

He’s engaging in pro-fascist propaganda, not selective patriotism.

    16. 80sMovieReferences on

Trump’s not a patriot, not even a selective one. He’s a traitor who serves only himself.

    17. Vegetable-Seaweed591 on

The dude buried his ex wife on a golf course for a tax break. So yeah, it’s all performative.

    18. DreadoftheDead on

Well, it is the least he could do for Charlie after having him killed to create another distraction from the Epstein files.

    19. Suspicious_Habit_26 on

How is being full-on antiAmerican considered to be selectively „patriotic“, in this particular instance?

    20. Quiet-Corner6150 on

„Selective patriotism“, bleh. He rewards loyalists. He’s no patriot, he’s a con man that we all failed to take down a very long time ago. This is the perfect example of what happens when we keep putting rich people on pedestals and let them get away with anything.

    21. Chef_RoadRunner on

DUH. Have you been under a rock? Anyone who thinks Trump is somehow a fair and even minded individual should have their head examined.

    22. oldwestprospector on

Buying a flag today to fly it full staff, fuck these hypocrite scumbags

    23. Fearless_Excuse_5527 on

Wouldn’t put it past Trump to float the idea of a Federal holiday honoring Kirk. Or pressure the Pope to make him some sort of saint. Hell, he is already getting a posthumously Presidential Medal of Honor. Nobody deserves to die, but the level of hypocrisy is disgusting and we need to be better as a society.

    24. He also refused to call Governor Walz after the Hortman shooting, calling it „a waste of time“ after the Kirk shooting he immediately called the Governor of Utah.

    25. He had them raised for his inauguration despite president Carter’s death !!

    26. The president is engaged in **treason** not patriotism. He’s celebrating another **traitor** who worked to sow disinformation and fascism with lies and manipulations while ignoring the death of public servants.

Charlie Kirk was a piece of shit who lived without honor.

    27. greentreesbreezy on

Rightwingers sure do have a lot of empathy for the guy who said all gay people should be killed and black people shouldn’t have the right to vote.

But when children get shot? Meh, it happens, move on.

    28. If he didn’t have selective patriotism, he wouldn’t have any patriotism at all.

    29. Yeah… No shit. And before the identity of the shooter was even determined, he made a national statement saying that the shooting was to be blamed on Americans and the media becoming too extreme in their rhetoric… And then completely unironically, in his next sentence, blames all the rising rhetorical vitriol on what he called „radical leftists“ – a term he uses for…. Anyone who speaks out in opposition to him (governors, senators, members of Congress, mayor’s, actors, lobbyists, outspoken teenagers, and more….) Thereby, simultaneously proving and undercutting his very point.

    30. RedOctober20 on

So many murders in that country daily, but this deserves a half-mast? Because some people liked what he had to say. He wasn’t even in politics to my knowledge. From my understanding he was an influencer and internet personality.

    31. geekonthemoon on

It’s absolutely sick that he ignored the death of Melissa Hortman and now they want to make Charlie Kirk out to be a hero and a martyr.

He was a professional rage baiter who was especially good at sucking off the President.

Disclaimer that I condemn political violence on all sides. But Charlie Kirk was no hero.

    32. objective reality says he isn’t engaging in patriotism at all; that’s not something he feels. trump doesn’t give a shit about america, but he sees kirk and his murder as a useful tool to manipulate the public with and advance his power consolidation

    33. arthurdentxxxxii on

That’s because Trump doesn’t care about patriotism AT ALL. He just cares when the benefits him.
