Your single ticket was for region 10 within the VGN system. With the 10-trip ticket you need to punch as many trips as the region demands. So, for region 10 you need to punch it 10 times. That’s how you end up at the same price.

Not sure if you really need region 10. That’s what you need to figure out yourself or ask in a local sub.

    2. https://www.vgn.de/tickets/10er-streifenkarte/

Your ticket can be used for 1 to 5 trips depending on the distance you are travelling/how many zones you are travelling through. You have to stamp the correct amount of strips, but that amount isn’t always 2 per trip. It might even be 10 if it is a longer trip through 10 zones.

    3. You likely paid way to much the first time or had a day ticket and those tripe ones are sometimes for only one trip or it looks like for only a specific duration. The problem is that almost every city has their own system. Thats why the Deutschlandticket was so revolutionary as you are basically allowed to any near-distance transportation in Germany.

    4. You probably bought the wrong single trip ticket.

The tickets are based on distance. (Preisstufen)

The only ticket for 15€ is Stufe 10, which would also require to validate ten strips from the Streifenkarte.

So, it’s the same price for the same distance.

    5. Some of the other explanations are not entirely correct. Make sure you use the ticket strip correctly as per VGN rules. If you mess it up it is like riding without a ticket.

The picture shows a Streifenkarte that has both invalid and upside down stamps on it. To begin with, the top of each stamp needs to align with the arrow indicating the insert direction into the stamp machine. So the stamp that is upside down is invalid. The minimum number of stripes to stamp is also 2, so both stamps at the bottom are invalid unless completed with identical stamps on another Streifenkarte. For number of stripes stamped, you have to consult the zone map or vgn website/app.

Overall this is a old and unintuitive system. Easier to have a D-ticket or use one of the apps.

    6. This bullshit is the reason why Deutschlandticket is a success and should never be removed. How should anyone who doesn’t work at this Verkehrsverbund know that you have to stamp a ticket multiple times in a certain order depending on where you want to go? Do you also have to know the secret handshake to greet the ticket person?
