The quotes should be around ‚alliance‘. The dynamics was always the same. Trump just brought the arm twisting and servitude to the public eye.

      >“We must be even more proactive than we have been so far in forging new partnerships around the world and expanding and strengthening existing ones,” he said.

      >While Germany would seek cooperation “wherever possible” with China on issues like climate policy, increasing “systemic rivalry” with Beijing means Europe must look elsewhere to “diversify our raw material and trade chains in the interests of strategic sovereignty,” the chancellor added.

      >That means Europe needs trade agreements and closer partnerships with South American countries as well as India, Indonesia and Mexico, but also “beyond G20 countries,” including in Africa and Asia.

I wonder if he’s aware of the rumoured or leaked Pentagon document that indicates a shift in US strategic focus from containing Russia and China in Eurasia to „homeland defence“(like the use of the US military to police American cities) and anti-drugs operations in Latin America.

    3. Hah,

The ways things are going parts of Germany will be looking with false nostalgia at the *Soviet* alliance.

    4. There are worse „nostalgia“ that Germany has to fear: not only there’s AfD, there are still industrialists that wish for russian fossils to come back in full force.

I’ve only ever heard false nostalgia about how “great” America was from people like Merz, Tf is he on about?

    6. Don t worry Mertz, Europe will buy your weapons! But also from USA. And if Germany don t need US troops they can go to Poland, Baltics, Romania at least 2-3k for each country. You have like … how much 35k?

How can anyone have nostalgia at this point? Bill Clinton asked Europe to take it’s defense seriously. Obama straight up said Asia will be the US focus. Trump colluded with Russia in his first term, and he’s doing it again now.

Ahh the US as an ally

That means they will intervene in our democratic process if our nations start showing increased anti-capitalist sentiment

That means they will economically cripple us by manufacturing an artificial currency crisis that will hurt us for decades

That means they will hurt our busines with them if our business is in any way superior to their local businesses

Hell of a fucking ally. The kind of ally you shit on from a distance because it stinks more than your shit

    9. When it comes to trade wouldnt one sided Tarrifs with the African Union be a good way to start?
Imposing Tarriffs on EU good, while exempting African Goods.
On the one hand Making African Products more affordable in Europa and on the other making EU products less so in Africa, thus protecting the African Economy.

    10. It doesn’t make sense in 2025 that the US is protecting Europe.Afyer all, Europe doesn’t have bases in the US to protect the US.

    11. US is an enemy of Europe. They don’t give a shit about us. Let’s not pretend otherwise.

Not going to lie, absolutely annoying that for almost 20 years I’ve been saying this and getting hammered on it by all the US/NATO bootlickers, and now finally, it just turns out „Oh yeah it’s just false nostalgia“ wtf.

The EU should have expanded the Treaty of Lisbon into a full EU army decades ago and decoupled from the US. Why in fuck would anyone think the US has the EU’s best interests at heart? Like it or not, the EU is a economic competitor to the US just like China is, the difference being the EU is just an institutionally captured one by atlantacist US imperial managers.
