Justice Sonia Sotomayor issued a scathing dissent to Monday’s Supreme Court ruling authorizing immigration agents’ use of racial profiling, saying it’s “unconscionably irreconcilable” with the U.S. Constitution.
The case, filed in part by individuals ICE stopped during immigration raids, came before the high court after a U.S. district judge found that the raids had violated the Fourth Amendment, which protects against unreasonable searches and seizures by the government. The Trump administration appealed the decision, and the conservative-majority court ― which includes three justices picked by Trump ― took it on its as part of its emergency, or “shadow,” docket last month.

The rulings of the SCOTUS shouldn’t be viewed as legitimate at this point.
At this point it’s all documenting for the future truth and reconciliation process and our own version of Nuremberg trials. Good for her.
So Republicans support arresting American citizens based on the way they look, just so Trump can arrest more immigrants.

Everything the 6-3 SCOTUS has done is questionable. This is first time I feel like all is lost.
Having the freedom to walk the streets and go to work without the fear of racial persecution is a fundamental American ideal. And poof…it’s gone.
I hate guns. But people across the board need to arm themselves because it’s clear the admin is declaring war on one citizen group after the next, and anyone who dare to oppose white nationalist fascism.
The day will come, and the military is going to have to decide whether to defend the people or defend a pedo hellbent on destroying every single value that has made us great.
This is the result of a successful coup. Are people still waiting for a hero to come to the rescue? The GOP is all for this and the Dems aren’t going to risk their generational wealth to protect your rights. Eventually the people will have enough.
So Melania Trump doesn’t ever speak with her mother in their native language when they’re out shopping or something? Do they get racially profiled as well?
I don’t care how many Latino or Latina Americans voted for Trump because they think they’re not one of *them*, no one should be targeted for being tanned and not speaking English.
The question now is who will be determined to be the next group of second-class citizens that the 4th amendment does not protect.

Im all for a constitutional amendment when it comes to SCOTUS members. They rule shit like this and there’s nothing anybody can do about it.
You think conservatives will ever realize the implications of destroying and ignoring the Constitution…you know, the thing that justifies the federal government’s existence and consent of the governed?
“We should not have to live in a country where the Government can seize anyone who looks Latino, speaks Spanish, and appears to work a low wage job.”
It’s also the 4th goddamn Amendment of the apparently fucking meaningless Constitution of the United States.
The legitimacy of this Supreme Court is totally and completely dead and gone. Even members of SCOTUS know that now. The People certainly do.

Reminder: Latinos voted for Trump in 2024. It’s just mind-boggling, and a signal that COVID killed a lot of brain cells.
I’m sick of blistering dissent I want to see some massive pushback from those that are supposed to serve us.
Find me an interpretation of this ruling that doesn’t functionally make having brown skin probable cause.
We need Europe to unite and overthrow our government. Then install an actual democracy.
If there was ever any doubt before that the Supreme Court has been bought by Trump and his allies then this should prove they have. These case should have been a clear cut loss for the current administration as this is a clear cut case of racial profiling.
Pulling people over just because they speak Spanish, are Latino etc is the definition of racial profiling.
The fourth amendment is now gone.
This applies to you, too, white people.
“Show me your ID.”
“I’m not doing anything and I’m white.”
“In this light I can’t tell. Turn around and put your hands behind your back.”
Write your representatives to tell them to vote against trumps upcoming spending bill. The one Schumer supported runs out at the end of September.

I wish she had written her dissent in Spanish and only Spanish.
So here we have the administration making Latinos (including Latino-Americans) second class citizens.
And we have the Supreme Court affirming it.
All the “pick me” Latinos in south Florida and across the nation are learning a very hard, but very old, lesson.

All of the hispanics who voted for Trump basically made themselves second class citizens.
So this is America now? We sure took several steps down from what made us all great.
