It’s weird that people vote for political parties that take away the provision for people’s basic needs. Seems like the ultimate act of self sabotage or just hating on other people.
There doesn’t seem to be any real plan from the government to expand access to NHS dental care.
I’m surprised they haven’t received more criticism for it
Whatever your political beliefs,it is quite frankly shameful that this is happening in modern Britain.
My NHS dentist won’t stop bugging me to come in every six months for a check-up. This started about five years ago, prior to that it was always one visit per year. I keep telling them I think once a year is fine and I don’t give in and go for a second check-up in the same year. I don’t have any conditions that would warrant more frequent check-ups.
I got a filling in India for £5 from my friends family dentist and it was top notch. Bristol private dentist wanted £85 just to sign up to their practice….
It’s impossible to get an NHS dentist where I live at the moment. I’ve even been in contact with the councils dental help service and they confirmed to me that there was only one dentists in the whole county taking on NHS patients. Luckily I can drive so I tried to get in touch with them, and then it turned out they aren’t taking on patients after all.
My teeth are absolutely fucked, to the point it affects what foods I can even eat. But all I can currently do is phone for an emergency dentist if I have pain. Last emergency dentist visit I had was for an abscess. I got prescribed some anti-biotics and that was it.
Yet the government disincentivises employers from providing employees with private dental coverage. Great system
Yet the government will spend more than 7 billion on importing Afghans. When we’re stuck with Soviet scenes like this.
Reform can’t come soon enough.

The UK tightly restricts the number of dental practitioners operating in the UK by limiting the number of training places, training costs multiples more than students pay for their tuition but until recently it hasn’t changed from 2013 figures.
The policy has been a disaster and a case of saving pence but costing pounds as demand surged, not only with increased population, but culturally as people put more emphasis on their looks due to social media, cosmetic dentistry has been one of the fastest growing industries in the UK as people take up treatments like Invisalign, recolouring, crowns (rise of Turkey teeth).
So whilst the government saved some money on not training dentists the pay opportunity for dentists has increased and there’s less need to take on NHS work, now the only solution is to release the purse strings and to increase training places whilst incentivising dentists to take placements and NHS work.
I wish one of our parties would look at the state of our dentistry within the NHS and look at making it financially more viable with investment so people can access treatment.
Bad dental health can cause major problems long term and cause more and more dental issues over age costing more money and health for people. Why we don’t look at this more is wild to me. I know people who haven’t been to the dentist for years because they can’t get one
I’m sure asylum seekers will be put to the front of the queue to meet Britain’s requirement to look after the 3rd world.
My NHS dentist wrote to me to tell me they had to remove me as a patient because they were over their NHs funding budget. 1 year later they rang me to offer me an appointment because they hadn’t reached their NHS budget quota but tried to make out they never removed me.
