So does India and so does the EU itself?

(In 2024, EU countries collectively purchased approximately $25.5 billion worth of Russian fossil fuels.)

Well, could is the word of the union. Could this and could that. We haven’t done shit to end the war. We walked nicely on the American leash until it was no longer Mr Nice Guy Biden in the White House and now we’re grasping in complete darkness. Half the union doesn’t want to lift a finger for Ukraine, if it’s out of their pocket, and the other half are too scared to do anything.

People always say that the solution is more EU, we need a federal EU, that will solve it all. Really? We always have a roadblock or two in the union to make sure we can’t do anything meaningful. That roadblock is called Hungary. Federalizing this piece of crap means we bake that Hungary shaped feature into the union and make sure we can never accomplish a single thing.

It’s time to grow up and be nation states that can do things on their own and take some fucking initiative instead of waiting for Trump or the EU or Walt Disney to do something first. Because nobody else is going to do it for us.

    3. Hahaha who is the EU to dictate to China. That is a thing of the past. The EU has long since lost its place as an economic leader. As has America.

At this point its just embarrassing to read, really. I get that the EU strongly despise the fact that countries still continue to trade with Russia – but who do these people think they are?

China is a primary source for laptops, cell phones, LEDs, circuit boards, ***98%*** of rare earths and magnets [[1](https://pie.net.pl/en/98-of-eu-demand-for-rare-earth-elements-is-met-by-china/)], magnesium (used for light weight metal alloys, e.g. in cars) and more than half of all antibiotics and painkillers. If the EU goes through with this they should ask themselves where else we are supposed to source these things from or how they plan to build up these production lines quickly in Europe, because without them, the economy and health care systems will be in huge trouble.

And if they were serious, they should have started building these supply capacities BEFORE talking about sanctioning China.

    5. Did someone told them that we still buy russian energy trough various proxies and Russia itself? And i don’t really understand why China would give a fuck about Ukraine. Europe needs to grow some balls, instead of sanctioning the whole world for things we do ourselves let’s start fight Putin seriously, instead i only see stupid declarations, and spineless attempts of posturing like “we will send troops but only if conditions X, Y, C, B are met“, meanwhile Ukraine keeps getting attacked by Russia.

Nice to see Europe have some backbones for once. If only it is consistent and principled, and doesn’t just selectively show backbone to some and be spineless to others.

The worst characteristic of Europe is that how tough it treats others very much depend on how safe it feels from the retaliation. The Chinese are civilized and can be reasoned with, so Europe has always been consistently VERY tough on China, taking every restraint as weakness and every retaliation as aggression. Trump is mad and malicious, so Europe is all too eager to submit, please, and placate him for fear of another tantrum. Despite styling itself as some kind of highly cultured civilization, Europe as a whole has not even wean off the basest form of subhuman instinct (i.e might makes rights).

Doubt US and EU will take any action against China !!
If they wanted to take any actions they would have taken it already, instead US Targetted India for domestic politics.

What did US achieve by this ? Neither they succeeded in achieving any trade deal , neither they were able to stop them from purchasing oil from Russia .

America already got humiliated by China when US had to lower the tarrifs from 200% to 30% when China retaliated .

Nobody in US is talking about Russia China Oil and Gas deal which is the biggest ever in the world. And on top of that they have ditched the Dollar for the deal .

    8. Eagle_eye_Online on

Fuck off with the whole sanction bullshit already.
China isn’t your bitch, and they can buy from whoever they want.

    9. Good luck with that!

I only read the headline to be fair, but if this is what they are even thinking, then the level of delusion is insane.

    10. Limp-Operation-9085 on

Oh! The EU is going to impose sanctions on its own citizens! Higher cost of living!

    11. There is plenty of evidence that sanctions do not really work in the modern age. Too many built in loopholes for profiteers while the average person suffers.

    12. Kind-Associate7415 on

So are we going to sanciones our biggest trade Partner? How is in charge of europe? All traitors?

    13. KGN-Tian-CAi on

So will the EU sanction its own individual member States consequently as well?

Are we not still directly buying Russian hydro carbons?

    14. Potaeto_Object on

Does anyone really think sanctions can do jack shit against anyone anymore? I mean come on we’ve tried this 18 times already.

    15. And how? More tariffs on China? US and Trump just prove that did not work.

70% of imported travel cases and handbags, 50% of imported automobiles, and 40% of imported cosmetics of China, are importing from European Union. China also imports a lot of high-end machines and spare parts from EU. We are not talking small fucking potatoes; they are BIG money, worthing billions of EUROs.

Does EU really want to lose that money? If no, then sanctions against China on that ground may be a very bad idea. What EU should do is to think what we can export MORE to China and make the trade balanced.

    16. AldrichOfAlbion on

This is the most moronic campaign I have ever seen. The EU literally buys Russian energy itself, and has members Hungary and Slovakia meeting with the President of Russia.

China does not need Europe. China needs the US. Europe just has no direction or policy stratgey when it comes to things like this, the exact same problem it had when it came to the Bosnian conflict.

The EU needed NATO (i.e. Britain and the US) to swoop in and save it because it lacked any direction at all.

What does boycotting one of the largest markets on Earth actually do? Nothing.

    17. Stabile_Feldmaus on

It would be hubris to think that this is is successful. The situation would be different if we could reliably impose sanctions together with the US, but we can’t trust them anymore since they might just stab us in a back the next day, like they did before.
