Beyond an outsized influence over our culture and media, and seemingly all too often seeing American media create narratives about Canada, has there not already been numerous examples of American political operators working with Canadian political groups? Some recent stirring in Alberta comes to mind, as an example.

For better or worse, right or wrong, I expect and assume America is exerting indirect and direct influence on the course of Canadian politics and political discourse.

The US has been interfering in Canadian politics for decades. A good example is the deep links that Preston Manning and the Reform Party forged with the Gingrich-era Republicans, links which continued into the CPC era, particularly among Prairie Conservatives. The secessionist movement in Alberta, which is more properly a pro-annexationist movement trying to get Alberta, Saskatchewan and BC into the US, has deep ties to American conservatives.

Hell, Postmedia is owned by an American company, so every time you see a National Post editorial pop up on this sub, you are looking at direct attempts by American conservatives with very strong ties to the GOP trying to influence us.
