Most people have smart phones and using PayPay to pay even vending machines in the office. Haven’t seen anybody putting in coins for a long time now.

My high school student son uses PayPay, mostly because my wife can send him ¥ as he needs it. Still carries a PASMO though for train travel to/from school and for soccer games. He needs ¥100 coins to park his bicycle but otherwise doesn’t use cash, except for the occasional ramen place on the weekends.
