This one kind of makes sense, because why is the US paying for Eastern European countries defense?
This is a good opportunity for the EU to demonstrate that we are a reliable ally, not the US. We should immediately replace the funding with our own.
Shouldn’t those countries be funding their own defences?

America is dealing with it’s own overspending problems, but what’s fascinating to me is that Republicans seem to be totally fine with weakening American hegemony.
Everyone in this sub is constantly saying how much better their quality of life is compared to Americans, I see no reason why we should be funding y’all’s defense when y’all have it so good.

What’s there to be puzzled about? Trump is in love with Putin and dgaf. The faster Europe stops being „puzzled“ the better.
It’s not like all of your mad comments would do any better. Though additional 5% of GDP into defence surely will. You guys rather wake up and sacrifice one of your restaurant dinners once a month or…well, cry until your economy goes full war-time and you find yourself in trench.

US taxpayers never should have been paying for EU defense in the first place. The only reason Russia waited so long and moved so slowly is because of the American taxpayers. Every US president has been telling EU to step up their defense; Trump just happened to be the first to take any action.
I honestly don’t think this should be an ugly divorce. The US can’t afford to have a global military presence (they need to focus in their own industrial capacity and procurement to compete with China). Europe also needs to be responsible for its own defence. My pipe dream fantasy would be for American defence companies to partner with European companies and build factories in Europe so they can scale while we learn from the best. Even together we barely make 10% of the world population, so we need to work together.
Time for EU to pay up
Europe should cut back on buying the equivalent amount of US weapons and instead send those funds, or the value of those in European weapons, to the Baltic countries.
Is it enriching Trump, or the cabal that work with him until he turns on them? Then it’s liable to get cut for something that is.
Add in the fact that Putin ordered him to do it.
