Naive is the word she would use, absolutely foolish is the two I think of.

Kieran Cuddihy went fairly scorched earth on the candidates, really wasn’t letting anyone waffle or weasel out of a question easily.
Would absolutely love to see him demolish McGoober in a similar setting.

“Since Tuesday I have come to understand through conversations with people with vastly more experience in this type of campaign that I am unprepared for such an undertaking”
Always wise to have such conversations *after* publicly launching a campaign.

In other words, she realised how difficult it would be to win after entering the race just a month beforehand with zero preparation, zero campaign infrastructure, no party, no political networks etc.
I bet she reached out to a PR expert/campaign manager for help with her campaign and they talked some sense into her.

I saw some clips of her on Virgin media being questioned and she was just completely clueless. I don’t know what encouraged her to even go for it in the first place – ego? Fair play to her for coming back to reality and stepping back I suppose

I’d still have voted for her over Bertie The Bitter.

A low bar but its nice to hear someone admit they’re in over their head and back out, especially when certain rapists can never admit that they’re completely clueless.

Bertie and Joanna out of the running in quick succession. And it was shaping up to be hugely entertaining. We can only hope Flatley and Geldof can manage to round up a few councils.

Its such a silly campaign in Ireland. Our beloved Higgins nearly lost the campaign first time out because he basically said „none of what other candidates are saying is role of president“ to a spud head turning it into chamber of commerce before made a shite of brown envelope question.
If we have learned anything from Higgins can it be your campaign should be simple. „I will be sound, speak up for vulnerable people and I will make half the population in ireland go ‚ahhh so cute“ while the other half of men feel in absolutely no way threatened by him. Maybe bring a dog in and occasionally get caught at atm when taking money out for biscuits. Is that too luch to ask?
Is that too much to ask?

She was so clueless on tv the other night I felt sorry for her.
Even the interviewer seemed to be taking it easy after the first minutes as she was so out of her depth.

I saw her interview with Ciaran Cuddihy and my first instinct was this woman is not well, and someone needs to help her. I feel like she may have been struggling to come to terms with being dropped by Met Eireann and saw this as a way to stay relevant. I hope she’s ok.

I think the media giving attention to dopey notions from cranks and no-hopers just cheapens the whole thing. There’s way too much attention paid to people that have no viable route to a nomination. They’ve nothing useful to say and appear to have next to no understanding of the powers available to the President. Why indulge their vanity or delusion? These are not serious people.
It’s all shit and giggles and good for rage bait but for little else.

I’d say the overwhelming negative reaction across Reddit, Boards, X, the Irish Times, etc would have hit her hard. She follows social media very carefully and it wouldn’t have escaped her. We’ll probably hear all about it on Sunday morning in the Independent. Her delusions of grandeur will continue unabated.

I applaud her for coming out, admitting her failing. It takes a lot of strength and courage to admit when you’re wrong. I watched the interview and it was a car crash so kudos to her for knowing when to quit.
There are actually no good or worthy candidates for this. None.

If she’d quietly left Met Éireann and stepped out of the public eye for a while, she’d be in a far better position going forward. That newspaper article was bizarre and ill-advised. Now this… I’m torn between thinking she’s unwell or that she has a rampant ego. Maybe it’s a bit of both. Whatever it is, she’s doing a pretty good job of trashing her reputation and any future career she might have. She could’ve continued to write books or made TV shows/podcasts about the weather and popular science. Instead, she’s at risk of being remembered for her antics from this year.
