While the ‚*bringing a forklift to the gym*‘ analogy is both powerful and pretty spot on, this whole article just emphasised for me that in cases wherever people try to advance a strong ‚**either/or**‘ argument, the real answer is almost always ‚**both/and**‘.

Students (and people of all sorts really) who rely primarily and consistently on AI will not develop the skills they need for life and work or will see those skills atrophy and weaken over time.

On the other hand, people who adopt a blanket refusal approach will fail to make gains and progress that is now falling right into their lap at very little cost.

There has to be a conversation around how to integrate AI into modern Ireland and how we can harness it. I agree with the OP that students wont develop the skills if they consistently use it but they have to know how to use it. I’ve been moonlighting (lol) as a songwriter for a bit, Ive been working with two smaller artists writing songs and using Suno that they then polish up in Audcaity or Garage Band. They work with AI, not through it. Students and everyone should learn proper prompt engineering (fancy words) that can be useful. Ive used it to put together budgets when money was tight for food shopping and losing weight in designing calorie deficit diets. AI is here to stay, you can hate or work with it…
