Hopefully J-Gen Z is taking on board the idea that, instead of drinking to escape a miserable (salaryman) life, you can instead try to build a life that you don’t feel the need to escape from.
Self-empowerment over self-obliteration.

I’ve heard this is happening in many places around the world. It would be interesting to see if the decline here is comparable to a place like Canada (where I am currently visiting for work), which has its own extensive craft & domestic beer culture.

The number of ads depicting young women drinking alone at home is despicable. This is an industry that deserves to die like tobacco.

Allow me to be contrarian – I don’t know how positive the end of drinking is.
I know some zoomers are gymcelling which is good, I suppose.
But a lot of people out there are being sedentary. They’re eating bad. They’re doing drugs.
I have a very strong feeling this decrease in drinking reflects a decrease in socialising. Not all of these kids are replacing getting drunk with wholesome-but-cringe board game dates over matcha or something. A lot of them are just sitting around, inside, alone, watching TikTok videos or corn.
