Part of the reason why the red squirrel is coming back into ireland as the pine martin is killing the grey ones

Stoat?

Forgot to add to the original post, but it ran inside the house! We had the back door open, and we we’re chatting 10-15 feet from the entrance, and it sauntered in. Thankfully scared it out, before the dogs realised.
I would say Mink, is there a stream or river near your house?

Definitely a mustelid as it’s got the typical „bouncy“ walk. Most probably a mink (maybe with a bit of mange around the tail) judging by the colour, but it seems very small? Thought it could be a very dark coloured stoat, but it’s most likely a young mink. Definitely not a pine marten, totally wrong colour and it looks far too small.

Go over to it and, if it fucks you up, then you can be quiet certain it’s a mink

I think it’s a weseal rather than a stoat. See a weasel is weasely recognised whereas a stoat is stoataly different

It looks very much like a Ferret.
Since you said it came into the house it might be someone’s escaped pet. The hair loss on the back end suggests an older ferret.
Looks much too small to be a mink. Ferrets have slimmer more pointed faces and snouts.
Check the local FB groups in case someones pet has escaped.
We have three ferrets ourselves which is why I’m suggesting it.

Young mink would be my guess. Moves like a mink anyway, and the colour is right.

Definitely a mink.
A question i always have is how have mink done so well in the wild here, yet ferrets / polecats which are kept widely as pets and people use for hunting arent anywhere near as abundant in the wild (despite being every bit as much of a ferocious hunter) i know they have been eradicated on rathlin recently but you dont hear of them on the mainland
