      I mean, there are a fuck ton of drugs coming from Venezuela right now, and I don’t doubt that boat was loaded with them. However the normal procedure is to stop, detain and arrest those involved. Cartels tend to operate by offering extremely poor people life changing amounts of money which are still pretty trivial to the cartel. They send a lot of them out and assume that a few will get through and who cares about the ones who don’t. Venezuela is currently largely populated by extremely poor people so there is no shortage of folks willing to take the risk.

      I talked to a couple of coasties based out of Southern California who were complaining that they signed up to do rescues in high seas and other cool action stuff, but their job had turned into being ocean cops trying to stop and unending stream of dirt poor fishermen on shitty fiberglass boats packed with drugs. They said that the guys would usually try to run a little, but once they knew they were caught they’d put up their hands and happily surrender.

      I’m kind of wondering if this is more about sending a message that the US is not fucking around anymore. Instead of being being captured sent to a prison in the US, you’ll be fish food. I’m sure they’ll still be able to find people to go out on the boats, but if word gets out the US is simply drone striking boats there may be a few less.

      That said, What the fuck? They stop and interdict because that’s what you’re supposed to do. Shoot first and ask questions later is not the way things like this should be handled.

      The videos I’ve seen are a bit grainy. Doesn’t look like that boat had 11 people in it. Usually these narco-boats only have about half that number or less.

      The strangest thing about this attack on an alleged drug boat from Venezuela is that Donald Trump was best friends with Jeffery Epstein for over a decade at the same time that Epstein was criminally trafficking and raping children and while Trump was constantly in his company.

      Extrajudicial murder used to be illegal. This isn’t a war zone. No evidence has been provided and even if this crew were card carrying members of a cartel, we have things like trials, evidence and prison. We don’t simply allow government to murder people on their say so. Such practices very very easily translate to the US.

He needs something to catch fire to justify halting elections. Otherwise, he’s going to get smeared in the midterms. The economy is a ticking time bomb, too.
