Steuerangriffe gegen Angela Rayner sind, weil sie eine „artikulierte Arbeitermeisterin“ ist, sagt Kabinettskollegin

She most definitely is not. She’s as crooked as the rest

They’ve already acknowledged that she didn’t break the law, but broke the ministerial code. It’s pure projection by the Tories. They didn’t have a problem breaking the code before this.

She’s an experienced politician and anything but inarticulate. If she takes legal and financial advice to set up trusts and methods of avoiding stamp duty, she’s liable for any consequences.

To be clear, Rayner has as much right to avoid paying tax and manage her finances as the rest of us. But its gross hypocracy against the values of the party to which she belongs.

The attacks against her are not because she’s „articulate“ and „working class“ – its because there seems to be rules of conduct that the governing party expect us to follow whilst ignoring those rules themselves

They’re because there is very little actual news AND people are very unhappy with the current government.

Throw the dogs in the press some meat and see how they stop caring about which minister picks their nose etc…

I think it’s more because it’s shown her to be a massive hypocrite.

She would be spitting venom at a Tory or Reform MP if they did the same whilst she was in opposition.

She’s an MP for Tameside, who doesn’t even live here. She supports the destruction of hundreds of acres of local countryside for her rich developer mates.
Just like other Labour MPs in Tameside (Andrew Gynne for example), she treats us all with contempt, while enriching herself.

There’s two things here.

1. Legitimate scrutiny of the deputy Prime Minister’s actions and tax affairs.

2. An element of the press who hate Rayner because she is a working class woman in the second-from-top job in politics.

These two things can both be true.

Is she being attacked unfairly a lot because of her background? Yes. Should she still not do tax avoidance (even if technically legal)? Obviously also yes

That’s not the case, she is just another hypocritical, trough emptier like most other politicians

When I first heard about it it did sounds like, at best, something which was a bad look.

And it is still a bad look. Most people will never get the chance to ’save‘ 40 grand by legally avoiding tax. It also means Raynor is now unable to criticise anyone else for taking advantage of the system in this way, which is probably not ideal.

I wonder, is this a problem we want to solve? And more importantly… is it a problem that her critics want to solve.

I wonder if the Tories criticising her for this have ever taken advantage of anything similar. Because if they have…. well, the hypocricy would of course be on brand.

If this is a problem we want solved then lets close the loophole. Let’s also have HMRC investigate the tax of every MP to find all the loopholes to be closed.

But that doesn’t appear to be what her critics want. They appear to just want a stick to beat her with.

How are we still talking about this?

Angela Rayner got divorced from her husband. Following their divorce she sold her share in and removed her name from their shared family home.

Then she bought a new property. As it was the only property she owned there was only the normal stamp duty.

That’s it.

The family home she may be living in and the ministerial property she has access to are irrelevant, she does not own either of them. It’s the same as someone renting a house and then buying a new one, it doesn’t count as a second home.

Or maybe it’s because she’s a tax dodging cunt! The government should be closing loop holes for the rich, not exploiting them for their own financial gain.

Just seem a video with a female radio presenter from Talk losing her head about this. She mocked Rayner’s accent a couple of times. It’s not the fact Rayner has done what she did that’s angers them, it’s the fact a northern working class person has done it.
