    2. Average is usually a pretty bad measure since extremes can skew it, it won’t actually reflect the life of the “average” person. I’d rather be working class or middle class in Japan than in countries with a much higher average income like the US.

    3. Koreans make slightly more money now but have way higher expenditures for no reason other than status.

      Japanese families using a Toyota Aqua + mamachari while Korean families get a Kia Sorento (a big ass SUV), Kia Carnival or even a BMW. I don’t get it.

    4. Most people from wealthier countries/economies are also indebted unless they pay everything like homes and cars in cash. Banks and tax authorities may want to talk to them

      Koreans may have higher household debt, but the government have one of the lowest debt to GDP ratio (45%) compared to Japan (235%) and OECD average (110%). Korea often relieves personal debts time to time I heard which is controversial. And when I lived there rent was cheaper than Japan.

      Just saying every country has problems and different circumstances. Kind of difficult to say one is better than the other by just comparing few stats.
